Parkland dad says focus on ‘just gun control’ is reason for TX school shooting: ‘They didn’t learn anything’

The father of a teenager who died in the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting says state governments haven’t learned “anything” from previous mass shootings and insists focusing “on just gun control” is to blame for the most recent massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“Evidently they didn’t learn anything,” Andrew Pollack told Fox News Digital.

Citing a 2018 shooting at a school in Santa Fe, Texas, that resulted in 10 deaths, Pollack emphasized his point.

“They didn’t learn anything from what happened in Texas at that school shooting, they didn’t learn anything from what happened in Parkland at that shooting, they didn’t learn anything from what happened at Sandy Hook,” Pollack said. “When you focus on just gun control, this is what happens. It’s happened again.”

Pollack called for armed guards at every school, one point of entry into schools, and an improved system to deal with the level of mental illness many of the school shooters appear to share.

“I guarantee you, this kid didn’t just wake up one day and say, ‘I want to kill my grandma,'” Pollack said. “There had to be red flags that went off, and it’s a big problem.”

Pollack does support background checks and so-called “Red Flag” measures, stating that “mentally sick” and “evil” minors need to be identified by local school districts and governments and the designation needs to be put “on their backgrounds so they can’t purchase a rifle.”

According to multiple reports, Salvador Ramos, the 18-year-old who shot 19 elementary school children and two teachers on Tuesday, exhibited plenty of warning signs before embarking on his rampage.

As American Wire News reported, Ramos was allegedly a loner whose fights with his drug-abusing mother often ended with the police being called. Prior to purchasing the rifles and posting pictures of them online, Ramos, who stopped attending high school, would reportedly roam the streets and shoot random people with a BB gun.

That Ramos was able to legally purchase two rifles and 375 rounds of ammunition on his 18th birthday is now being used by Democrats to aggressively call for even stricter gun control measures.

In what many are calling a staged event for purely campaign purposes, Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke interrupted a Wednesday press conference from Governor Greg Abbott to accuse Abbott of “doing nothing” to prevent “totally predictable” shootings.

While O’Rourke was blasted for his self-serving stunt, it shows the lengths liberals are willing to go to ensure every ounce of this crisis is effectively squeezed for their agendas.

But according to Pollack, blaming guns isn’t the solution.

“There’s gun laws in place, there’s so many gun laws in place,” he said. “If they don’t have a background, not one gun law is going to make a difference.”

“You can’t focus on guns,” Pollack stated. “Nothing gets done.”

  1. These sanctimonious politicians that We The People have been sending to DC have done nothing to help insure public safety.
And have in fact undermined law and order in the U.S. with open borders, a broken justice system, city attorneys releasing criminals onto the streets.
Interesting that these same politicians are not as outraged about the children getting shot in Chicago on a daily basis!
They have absolutely no right to be speaking about gun laws that stop citizens from protecting themselves until they have done their jobs to make the U.S. safe for the citizenry.

  3. I have a shotgun and a rifle in my closet, they are stored there and have been for years. The only time I take them out is when I go to the gun range. In all of the time that I have owned these Weapons, and they are Weapons, they have NEVER Shot Anyone. When I was growing up it was just as easy to get a gun as it is today and yet there were never any school shooting at any of the schools I attended. So what has changed??? It is NOT the manufacturing of these So Called Assault Rifles, which by the way is a misnomer, AR-15 Does NOT Stand for Assault Rifle-15, it In Fact stands for “ArmaLite Rifle,” the name given by the manufacturer ArmaLite. Also and just as important this is NOT a Machine Gun. It can only fire ONE Round at a time and it like it’s Hunting Rifle Cousin, the only difference being the Hunting Rifle has a wooden stock and the AR-15 has that scary Black frame. Both have the exact rate of fire, and the Hunting Rifle can be easily modified to except large magazines. Instead of looking at the Weapon, perhaps it is time we looked at the people who are actually doing the shooting.

  4. He’s 💯 right. People calling for more laws but maybe enforce the ones we have. In this case, this kid had no criminal background so he wouldn’t have come up on a background check.

I also agree that we should have armed security at all schools. I am a retired teacher and after Columbine about training select anonymous teachers to be prepared in case an active shooter came in since they didn’t seem to have enough money to have a resource officer in every school (we shared one with 2 other schools). When these were proposed some people went apoplectic, saying that students shouldn’t have to try to learn in a prison environment – that it would have a negative affect on them. When I countered with the idea that it might have a positive affect on them because they would actually feel safe instead of being afraid that someone was going to come in and shoot them, I was demonized and called a gun lover, etc…

What people refuse to acknowledge that putting up a sign that says, “No gun zone” do nothing as we all know that criminals don’t follow the law anyway.

  5. All it would have taken to have prevented the Uvalde shooting was something so basic that most people do it without thinking to protect their homes: LOCK THE DOORS! Why were the doors not locked?

Another thing that would have stopped him even if he’d gotten inside: ARM THE STAFF! “Gun-free zones” are magnets to shooters; it guarantees that no one shoots back–and this is according to the actual shooters themselves!

The most basic reason for all school shootings is the lack of any treatment for mental illness. Ramos was exhibiting every classic, textbook sign of being a future mass shooter, from torturing and killing neighborhood cats and burying them (with his mother’s knowledge!) to threats made to do exactly what he did; even the cops knew he was mentally ill–yet NOTHING was done to treat his mental illness, let alone as an inpatient, where he belonged. Dems have passed laws (“Stop warehousing mental patients!”) that make it nearly impossible to put someone in a facility without their consent; apparently they’d rather mentally ill people run free without even any mandated treatment or monitoring–until someone is killed. THEN they want to make GUNS illegal for law-abiding, SANE citizens!

You can thank the Dems for most school shootings.

    1. I see a drawback to arming school staff or even teachers. Once an armed threat is present, and has their eyes on the person permitted to be armed, it may well be too late for that person to retrieve the gun and respond.

  6. He’s totally correct. The plot to get rid of the guns in America is for one reason only and that is to disarm us while they reinvent our country. Background checks and red flag laws may help what’s happening, but they really only serve to punish the law abiding hunter, shooter, or collector, while those that pose a danger ignore the law and continue on their chosen path. It seems as though a flag should have gone up when this kid bought not one, but two semi-automatic weapons within days of each other, and then large quantities of ammunition and a number of magazines. Apparently this went unnoticed by anyone. Locking the doors to the school building with a single monitored entry and resource officer or armed teacher to greet any visitor seeking unannounced entry would have gone a long way for protection. We are all still sleeping through this stuff while we depend on do-nothing politicians to take care of it. That is not going to happen. They will promise, and give us lip servivce to get elected, then do nothing but serve their special interests. I’d sure like to see the day when we become that special interest.

  7. Think the Left cares about our children? Their grandstanding is for only one goal…to Disarm AMERICA! It’s essential for their plan that we are defenseless against tyranny!
They’re the people who would kill a child in the womb, or with a bio-weapon injection. Dems don’t give a rat’s ass about your kid!

  8. Meanwhile in Chicago….
    In NYC
    in L.A
    MPLS
    Seattle
    Portland
    D.C.
    Atlanta
    Etc etc…..
LAND OF THE QUEER HOME OF THE FEAR.

  9. A gun without a bullet is nothing more than an iron club. Guns dont kill people even though they can be used as a method of delivery.

  10. Shooters keep shooting at schools because they know kids are defenseless. Killers want their crimes to be done without obstacles and schools are easy targets. If teachers have a gun or schools are appropriately policed, shooters will have to choose other targets.

It must be clear that shooters are nuts and only want to kill before being shot.

Everyone has an opinion, but there is a FACT: over 30% of young guys in America are using pills for mental issues!!!! Before centering on guns, let’s focus on mental treatments.

  11. The ignorant left always waits until the building is oin fire to call the fire department and when it burns down, blame it on the equipment used rather than admitting inspecting the building in the first place and making it as fire proof as possible by installing the right equipment! This is the way they handle all these shootings! Waiting for the disaster to happen then comin up with a stupid resolution that in no way addresses the problem! Go sit on a sharp tack you liberal morons!

    1. Dems don’t want problems solved, they want to use them for political purposes. That’s the only reason why the doors were unlocked, the cops were so slow to arrive, and they didn’t want to enter until a high number were shot. Even then, the local police did NOTHING about the shooter; it was border patrol agents who went in and ended the killings–WITH A GUN.

Oh, the local cops did stop the parents from rescuing their children; one mother was put in handcuffs, a father was pepper-sprayed. So they didn’t do “nothing”–they prevented others from doing something.

By the way, as soon as the handcuffed mother was un-handcuffed, she circled around the cops, went into the school, and got her two children OUT–something the cops could have done, should have done, and REFUSED TO DO.
