Netflix nixes string of ‘woke’ shows, then drops 10 spoiled ‘snowflakes’ on a mountain in new reality lineup

What happens when you take a bunch of spoiled, entitled, vain, and vacuous 20-something ‘snowflakes’ and drop them on a mountain with a former army combat engineer and a former Navy explosive ordinance disposal officer?

Well, believe it or not, Netflix — yes, Netflix! — is about to find out, courtesy of a new reality competition show called Snowflake Mountain.

It’s the latest in a series of moves away from “woke” programming from the streaming giant that has many conservatives smiling and many liberals seeking a safe space.

Fueled by frustrated parents and the promise of a cash prize, ten young adults who, according to the trailer, “can’t even unload a dishwasher, much less hold down a job” will surrender their Wi-Fi connections and selfie-sticks for a “back-to-basics” lesson in how to “grow the hell up.”

The contestants include a self-described “Disney Princess,” a narcissistic vegan, and a wannabe influencer, the Daily Mail reports. They will attempt to survive at a wilderness retreat without running water, creature comforts, and parents who enable them.

The adventure will be, Netflix promises, “a rude awakening to just how pampered their lives have been so far.”

Meanwhile, a number of “woke” shows have fallen under the streaming service’s ax.

As American Wire News recently reported, “Antiracist Baby,” an animated series aimed at preschoolers and based on Ibram X. Kendi’s divisive book by the same name, was pulled from the service’s lineup.

Also gone in 2022 is “Space Force,” which openly poked fun at the Trump administration, and “Gentefied,” a show about three Latino cousins trying to keep their taco show alive, according to WhatsOnNetflix.com.

Distancing itself from shows that feature a healthy dose of progressive messaging may, many speculate, be in response to tanking subscription numbers.

“In the first quarter of this year, the company reported a net loss of 200,000 streaming customers, its first decline in a decade,” Variety reported. “Shortly after announcing a dip in subscribers last month, Netflix pink slipped approximately 25 employees in its marketing group.”

To those employees who remained, Netflix sent a memo informing them that they, too, should leave if they find themselves overly offended by the platform’s content.

“As employees we support the principle that Netflix offers a diversity of stories, even if we find some titles counter to our own personal values,” the memo read. “Depending on your role, you may need to work on titles you perceive to e harmful. If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you.”

Regardless of its reasons, consumers online are happy with the changes Netflix has been making.

“I am pleasantly surprised with Netflix as of recently,” tweeted one user. “They are heading in the right direction.”

  1. I believe we need to rally behind this company to show other corporations that they need to follow Netflix’s example.

  2. It remains to be seen how far Netflix backtracks from the edge of the cliff. My guess is that it won’t begin to be far enough. I don’t want to be preached to, and I cannot be brainwashed, but I can get mad as he!! at those who try, and at those who imply that there is something ‘wrong” with me because I don’t accept this new propaganda front that is being pushed on Americans. At least Netflix appears to have enough brainpower left to recognize they are about to go over a cliff. That’s more than I can say about the MSM (who have already plummeted over and are on their way to the bottom)!

  3. That show would be worth watching if when they go back all they find are snowflake peoplesicles.

  4. Netflix’s decline in streaming customers will have nothing to do with them raising prices over the year. Was it twice that they increased the prices? I am thinking it was since I downgraded my services on two different occasions so that I m still paying the same amount as I was before.

  5. I guess people love Survivor shows. I for one, never watch any. Too much else in life to do.

    1. I watched Survivor religiously for one year. Of course, that was over twenty years ago now. I question whether the contestants did anything that was expected of them.
