New Warner Bros Discovery CEO who axed CNN+ reportedly planning to un-cancel JK Rowling

The boss of Warner Bros. Discovery, which also now owns CNN, reportedly plans to have a sit-down with Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, which could lead to her being uncancelled.

CEO David Zaslav, 62, also oversees HBO, Discovery Channel, TNT, the Food Network, Turner Classic Movies, Animal Planet, HGTV, and various other entertainment entities. As part of the mega-merger, he is supposedly scheduled to meet with Rowling in the next few weeks to discuss new Harry Potter-related content for the HBO Max subscription streaming service, according to what insiders told the Wall Street Journal.

Warner Bros. Pictures produced all eight movies in the successful Harry Potter franchise.

“That [meeting] comes despite Rowling facing mounting criticism over her view on transgender people, with HBO Max ‘canceling’ her from a Harry Potter reunion special it broadcast on New Year’s Day,” the Daily Mail reported.

It was Zaslav’s decision to end CNN+, which lasted about as long as the Biden administration’s so-called Ministry of Truth.

Activists on the left have scorned Rowling, an outspoken feminist and someone who, incidentally, was no fan of ex-President Trump, for her opinions on behalf of biological women.

“Rowling, 56, has faced condemnation for her alleged transphobia for claiming that transgender women should be banned from some women-only spaces, and that children are being encouraged to transition without proper evidence they’re suffering from gender dysphoria,” the Daily Mail recalled.

The news outlet claims that Zaslav won’t back down, but time will tell if she will get uncancelled through the CEO’s wizardry, as it were.

“Any rapprochement with the billionaire British author is likely to infuriate progressive staff at HBO Max, but Zaslav seems unlikely to bow to woke pressure. Netflix faced a mutiny from some of its staffers over its broadcast of comedian Dave Chappelle’s controversial show The Closer, which saw him defend Rowling over her transgender comments,” the Daily Mail recalled.

Taking a meeting with the Potter creator, and maybe the information/leak in the WSJ story is just testing the waters, doesn’t necessarily mean the parties will strike a deal.

This situation may turn out differently, but recent history has shown that most corporate executives eventually cave to the woke mob.

In December 2019, Rowling tweeted, for example, “Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?”

In December 2021, she criticized Scotland’s government for logging male rapists as “female” simply because they claim to be women.

In an apparent nod to Orwellian doublespeak, she took to Twitter at that time to declare that “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”

As alluded to above, comments such as these prompted intense condemnation from progressive precincts.

Just this week, moreover, Rowling defended a teen who reportedly was ostracized for questioning trans ideology.

“Utterly shameful,” the author of the Harry Potter series message her nearly 14 million followers on Twitter. “Add this to the tottering pile of evidence that people in education and academia who’re supposed to have a duty of care towards the young have succumbed to an outbreak of quasi-religious fanaticism. The girl’s crime? Saying ‘sex exists.'”

Separately, Zaslav has named Chris Licht to head CNN, who is supposedly going to pivot the network away from opinion programming and to straight news.

It remains to be seen if CNN content will actually change, however, especially given that Licht is coming to the cable network from his role as executive producer of Stephen Colbert’s aggressively left-wing CBS show.
