A witness in a House Judiciary Committee hearing on abortion rights rudely corrected Rep. Chip Roy during heated questioning and declared she is “a proud abortion provider.”
Dr. Yashica Robinson, touted as an influential physician from Alabama, accused the Texas Republican of using “inflammatory language” as she struggled to provide information about abortion procedures during Wednesday’s hearing on “Revoking Your Rights: The Ongoing Crisis in Abortion Care Access.”
At one point in the testy exchange, Robinson told the congressman to address her as “Dr. Robinson.”
“Ms. Robinson, I’m gonna ask you a question,” Roy said after questioning another witness about abortions in Texas. “When is the latest you have performed an abortion in terms of weeks of the unborn child?”
“Yes, my name is Dr. Robinson and I provide abortion care in Alabama,” she replied. “So Alabama has–”
“What is the answer to the question,” Roy said. “The latest that you have performed an abortion?”
“I’m gonna answer your question,” Robinson responded. “So, unfortunately, my state [of Alabama] is one of those states that has passed restrictions or bans on abortion care, which limits physicians like myself.”
Roy interjected to say that “in other words, you’d like to do it later,” and repeated his question on when is the latest the doctor has performed an abortion.

“So since I always follow the law and I live in the state of Alabama, I provide abortion care up to until 20 weeks’ gestational age,” she responded.
“Ok, so you performed an abortion at 20 weeks,” the lawmaker confirmed.
“Yes, sir,” Robinson said but pushed back as Roy delivered the stark details of the procedure involving a second-trimester abortion.
When Roy pressed her about whether she has performed the procedure and what happens to the fetal remains, Robinson would not give a direct answer, instead playing the victim and lashing out.
“One of the things that you all have done, throughout this hearing, is just use inflammatory language to talk about the care that we provide,” she said.
“It’s a simple question,” Roy shot back. “Have you had human parts, baby parts – arms, legs – as a result of an abortion performed at the time you just acknowledged you performed an abortion up to 20 weeks.”
“I am a proud abortion provider. There is nothing that you can say that makes it difficult for me to talk about the care that I provide,” Robinson declared, continuing to evade a direct answer.
“There are baby parts, and you don’t want to talk about how they’re being stored. You don’t want to talk about putting them in freezers. You don’t want to talk about putting them in Pyrex dishes. You don’t want to talk about the videos we have from Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas. You don’t want to talk about the reality of what actually happens,” Roy told her as his time expired.
“All of those things that you just mentioned, I have never seen that in a healthcare setting, ever,” Robinson asserted.
