An angry Virginia mom is suing her son’s school over its divisive curriculum which she alleges includes education about Critical Race Theory.
Melissa Riley, a single mother from suburban Charlottesville, has hired a lawyer to start a legal case against Henley Middle School, where she says her 13-year-old biracial son’s education about CRT has influenced his perception of his place in the modern world.
“It has totally changed his perspective” on race, Riley told Fox News host Jesse Watters about her son’s middle school CRT curriculum.
During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime” Monday, Riley said that her son had never talked about himself as different from his peers, despite his father being black.
That is…until Albemarle School District incorporated Critical Race Theory into its coursework, a controversial education that led to outrage in 2021; this issue largely led to the unexpected victory of Republican Glenn Youngkin — who ran on a platform against CRT — in the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election against former Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Only then, she said, did her son talk about “racial issues,” affecting him. More specifically, she explained, he began using “racism” as a way of diminishing his normal responsibilities.
“When I asked him to clean the house… ‘racism'” was his response,” she told Watters. “We didn’t have issues before.”
“He’s seeing himself just as a black man,” she continued. “He’s seeing things that don’t go his way as racism. And he is finding safety in numbers. They have totally changed his perspective. They have put him in a box.”
Riley went on to explain that her son is using racism as an excuse, explicitly because the school has reportedly told him that people view him in that light — as a black man — and that the world is against him; he now sees the world as a negative place.
