Mayor Lightfoot babbles about fighting ‘MAGA crowd’, Chicagoans beg her to fight crime instead

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) doubled down on her “insurrectionist” language after her “call to arms” earlier in the week by aiming her vitriol at the “MAGA crowd” and the Supreme Court all while failing to address her own backyard as her constituents faced over 800 homicides in 2021.

On Monday, following the leak of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Lightfoot tweeted out a visceral response to the possibility that Roe v. Wade would be overturned before the end of June. “This moment,” she wrote addressing the LGBTQ+ community, “has to be a call to arms.”

She went on to say that “we will not surrender our rights without a fight,” and after being challenged on her violent rhetoric, instead of issuing a retraction, deleting the tweet, or softly walking it back, she behaved as all zealots do and doubled down.

“The single most patriotic thing a person can do is fight for their rights,” Lightfoot wrote Thursday. “You better believe I’m going to fight for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights and every other freedom the MAGA crowd or Supreme Court is trying to take away.”

It remains unclear if Lightfoot is aware that the Supreme Court does not have the ability to take away or confer rights, (part of the essential problem with Roe from the start), but it is abundantly clear her focus is anywhere but the streets of her crime-ridden city.

Lightfoot has remained deaf to her citizens’ pleas for an end to the violence. While many solely called out her inaction, others were willing to accept her vocal opposition to the potential Supreme Court decision so long as she actually took action to help Chicagoans faced with constant threats.

No, instead of addressing those legitimate concerns, Lightfoot accused her detractors of being hypocrites over January 6, even though Republican officials, including President Donald Trump, were adamant in their pleas for peace as the events at the Capitol transpired.

But, with a record as poor as hers, all she can do is play the victim and sling mud at her opponents in hopes of rallying enough support from low information voters for her potential reelection bid for 2023 as she ignores the rampant crime in the city.

And it isn’t merely the citizens of Chicago who have projected her mismanagement. William J. Kelly, formerly of Newsmax had asked Lightfoot in April, “Across the street, we had a police officer on duty the victim of a hit and run. We have Michigan Avenue, the Magnificent Mile, now referred to as the Mile of Fear. The Water Tower place has thrown the keys back to the lender, they say they don’t want to be in Chicago anymore. Real Chicagoans are asking me how could you possibly even consider running for re-election as mayor of the city of Chicago after all the harm you’ve caused.”

“Well I disagree with you fundamentally and I don’t think I need to address and dignify your comments one second further… next question,” she replied demonstrating that states’ rights, as ratified through the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, are more concerning to her than the lives of her own voters.
