Democrats are taking the fight over Roe v. Wade and abortion to Congress this week in an effort to codify the 2022 Women’s Health Protection Act that omits the word “woman” from the body of the legislation while the leftist media claims the leaked SCOTUS draft opinion threatens “anyone with a uterus.”
The word “women” is included in the title but not in the text of the bill.
President Joe Biden has previously vowed he would urge Congress to federally legalize abortion nationwide in the event that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. As the draft opinion leaked from the high court that it was poised to strike down the landmark abortion ruling, Democrats went into a meltdown and Biden demanded that Congress codify the law.
The 2021 Women’s Health Protection Act would take Roe v. Wade even further. It includes radical provisions on gender including the assertion that biological women who identify as transgender men can also become pregnant.
“The terms ‘woman’ and ‘women’ are used in this bill to reflect the identity of the majority of people targeted and affected by restrictions on abortion services, and to address squarely the targeted restrictions on abortion, which are rooted in misogyny. However, access to abortion services is critical to the health of every person capable of becoming pregnant. This Act is intended to protect all people with the capacity for pregnancy—cisgender women, transgender men, non-binary individuals, those who identify with a different gender, and others—who are unjustly harmed by restrictions on abortion services,” the legislation contends.
The 2021 bill also refers to “reproductive justice,” calling it a fight against “white supremacy.”
According to Byron York at the Washington Examiner, the latest version of the act has removed the radical “roots” of the legislation. However, it does not contain the word “woman” in its context.
“The 2021 bill is, in many ways, the bare, exposed id of today’s Democratic Party. It is filled with the kind of language that turns off voters in the vast middle of the electorate — Democrats, Republicans, and independents. And that is why, now that the Supreme Court leak has pushed abortion to the front of the political debate, and with midterm elections on the way, Democrats have removed all that language from the 2021 version of the bill,” York noted.
“That stuff about Reproductive Justice? It’s gone. About BIPOC? It’s gone, too. Nonbinary people? Gone. White supremacy? Nowhere to be found. Now that Democrats know the public will be watching, thanks to the Supreme Court leak, they don’t want people to see what they really think about abortion,” he continued.
“One notable aspect of the 2021 bill has made it into the 2022 bill. Even though it is known as the ‘Women’s Health Protection Act,’ the title is the only place in the entire 2022 bill where the word ‘women’ or ‘woman’ appears. Instead, the 2022 bill is designed to cover any ‘person’ who is pregnant. It describes its purpose as protecting ‘a person’s ability to determine whether to continue or end a pregnancy,’ and it would strike down any effort to ‘interfere with a person’s ability to terminate a pregnancy [or] to diminish or in any way negatively affect a person’s constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy,'” York added.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has scheduled a vote on the bill for this week but it lacks the votes to pass in Congress and is pretty much dead on arrival.
Schumer contends a vote on the act doomed to failure in Congress “is not an abstract exercise.”
“This is as urgent and real as it gets,” he proclaimed.
“We will vote to protect a women’s right to choose, and every American is going to see which side every senator stands,” he postured.
This week’s vote on abortion rights is not an abstract exercise.
This is as real and high stakes as it gets.
Senate Republicans will no longer be able to hide from the horror they’ve unleashed upon women in America.
We will see where every single senator stands.

“To help fight this court’s awful decision, I urge every American to make their voices heard this week and this year,” Schumer said. “I urge Americans to call their members, to write their members, to email their members, to text their members, and most of all to cast their ballots.”
“Make no mistake: the blame for this decision falls squarely on Republican Senators and the Senate Republicans as a whole, who spent years pushing extremist judges, spent years confirming three far-right justices to the Supreme Court, but who claimed somehow this day would never come. But this day has come, and we will fight it all the way,” he threatened.
Meanwhile, MSNBC political analyst Juanita Tolliver declared on “MTP Daily” Monday that Republicans are attempting to deny women and “anyone with a uterus” the right to an abortion.
“This is not going to stop, especially when the right and Republicans have dedicated decades to taking this basic right away from women, and anyone with a uterus,” she remarked.

“I want Democrats to continue to illustrate what day to day life will look like” if the court rules against Roe vs. Wade, Tolliver asserted.
