Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gave rabid leftists even more ammunition with which to carpet-bomb the right and saturate the airwaves when he injudiciously suggested the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade could lead to a nationwide ban on abortion.

With the possibility of Democrats losing control of both the House and Senate, a very brooding expectation for them, left-wing leadership is scrambling to codify the current protections of the controversial and often incorrectly-cited ruling by forcing a vote in the Senate on Wednesday that is ostensibly nothing more than a left-wing grasp at political straws.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) attempt to get every senator on the record as Chief Justice John Roberts struggles with what is essentially a procedural mutiny in the highest court of the land is believed to most certainly fail, but that has never stopped a Democrat from wasting the entire nation’s time.

McConnell told USA Today last week, “If the leaked opinion became the final opinion, legislative bodies — not only at the state level but at the federal level — certainly could legislate in that area.”

“And if this were the final decision, that was the point that it should be resolved one way or another in the legislative process. So yeah, it’s possible,” the GOP leader said.

Schumer called McConnell’s remarks “dreadful” and hyperbolically suggested the overturning of Roe v. Wade would mean “open season” on women’s health care, which connotes hunting and killing and are words and meanings lost on the NY senator who once openly threatened Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh on the steps of the Supreme Court building and didn’t receive as much as an informal censure from Congress.

At a rally for abortion rights outside the Court in March of 2020, then-Senate Minority Leader Schumer roused up the rabble and yelled to the crowd, “I want to tell you Gorsuch. I want to tell you Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions!”

“In light of the Supreme Court’s decision, upcoming decision, Leader McConnell acknowledged that a national ban on abortion is now possible without Roe, if Republicans reclaim the majority — hear that, America?” Schumer asked from the Senate floor.

“He really left the door open that federal and state governments would end up banning abortion altogether,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said in response to McConnell’s interview, while Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) added, “Every person in America should listen to him. When people tell you what plans they have to take away your liberty and autonomy over your own body, listen carefully,” Warren said.

Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), the Lloyd Christmas of the U.S. Senate, made sure her conjecture was heard as well.

“Why should the advocates who have been working for decades to put the conservative, right-wing justices on the court — why should they stop at that? Why wouldn’t they want to have a national ban on abortion and push for it?” she argued.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Nora Keefe said in a statement, “Mitch McConnell confirmed what voters have long known: Republicans will use every tool they can, from the courts to Congress, to make abortion illegal everywhere and strip away a women’s right to make our own decisions. For voters, the stakes of protecting and expanding our Democratic Senate Majority in 2022 have never been higher,” The Hill reported.

McConnell, for his part, said he has no intention of using any procedural tools outside of the norm if and when the GOP regains control of Congress.

“I’ve clearly stated I will never, never, support smashing the legislative filibuster on this issue or any other,” he said from the Senate floor on Monday.
