Calif woman in a quandary when she stumbles upon box of mail-in ballots while walking dog

Christina Repaci, who was walking her dog in East Hollywood, California Saturday evening, was stunned when she found 104 unopened mail-in ballots on the sidewalk and utterly dismayed when she couldn’t figure out who to give them to.

The Los Angeles County Registrar’s Office and the United States Postal Service are now investigating the matter. They are claiming it was a case of mail theft, rather than a direct attempt to interfere with the election.

“I turned the corner and I just saw this box of envelopes, and it was a USPS box. I picked some envelopes up and I saw they were ballots,” Repaci told Fox 11.

After finding the ballots and not knowing exactly what to do, she took them home with her for safekeeping while trying to find someone to handle the situation. She sent videos of the ballots she found to popular social media accounts to share the content, asking people what she should do next. That’s when she called a number of politicians and the LA County Sheriff’s Department with disappointing results.

“I actually called the Sheriff’s Department. I couldn’t get through, so I emailed them,” Repaci recounted. “I got an email back from a deputy basically in so many words saying it wasn’t their problem, and to contact the USPS.”

Finally, the LA County Registrar’s Office got in contact with her about picking up the ballots. Registrar Dean Logan personally drove over to pick them up.

“He (Logan) picked them up. I made sure he was legit. He gave me a card, and took a photo of the box,” she remarked.

“It was so much stress and for just one person to get back to me. What do I do here? Now if it happens to someone else, they don’t know what to do. They’ll just put them in a dumpster or throw them in the trash. I just don’t think it should have been this hard to figure out what to do with legal ballots. This is a country of freedom and our votes should matter and something like this should never happen,” Repaci asserted.

“Our office was notified over the weekend of a mail tray found containing approximately 104 unopened, outbound Vote by Mail ballots and additional mail pieces. Thanks to the cooperation of the person who found the ballots, we were able to quickly respond and coordinate the secure pickup of the ballots. We have reissued new ballots to the impacted voters. Early signs indicate that this was an incident of mail theft and not a directed attempt at disrupting the election. We are cooperating with the United States Postal Service and law enforcement to investigate,” the LA County Registrar’s Office said in a statement.

“Security protocols such as signature verification are in place to protect against any misuse or wrongdoing of Vote by Mail ballots. If a voter sees or hears something that could impact the voting process, they are encouraged to call our office directly at (800) 815-2666 or email [email protected],” the registrar’s office added.

“If a voter has not received their ballot by the end of this week, we encourage them to sign up to Where’s My Ballot? – a free service that sends automatic notifications by text, email, and voicemail to voters throughout California,” the statement concluded.

  1. So, her “story” is that she “found” a USPS box with mail in it, including some mail-in ballots, and took it home for “safekeeping”. Has there been any verification or vallidation of that part of her “story”? I question the whole tale.

    The second DISASTER is that California is ALL FOREIGNERS– africans, mexicans, central americans, moslems, armenians, semites, asians (especially chicoms). Whites are less than 10% of the population.

  6. There should be VERY FEW allowances for a mail in ballot and then they should be so CONTROLLED that it just wouldn’t be worth the trouble so you haul yourself down to the poll. OR the CONTROL could be a WRITTEN REQUEST for a BALLOT and then the REQUEST is MATCHED to the Returned Ballot! Those ballots should be CONFIRMED by members of EACH PARTY on the Ballot!!

    1. Isn’t that how it use to be. It was for people in the military, out of state or the country. Also hospitals and convalescent homes. Those were the only reasons you could request one. It was called an absentee ballot. Otherwise you took your valid ID to the in person polling place given to you. Where you were registered to vote and on that registry. Easy to audit, no computers, cheaper and more accurate. Just saying

  14. No evidence of voter fraud no matter how much evidence is uncovered. Don’t believe it? Ask the SCOTUS, they refused to even look into anything involving voter fraud. It appears they wanted Biden to win regardless of how he did it. Same goes for the Governors of several different states, no matter how many laws they had to break to accomplish their goal of a Biden win. We have far too many people in high government positions who were more than willing to sell their soul and their country for money, power and votes.

    Which uses machines and people owned by the democrats to make verifications.

    Yeah…you mean against any misuse or wrongdoing by conservatives only…. totally fair elections, right?.

    1. One of the main keys to the cheat was the machine software sent the ballots to adjudication.
      The normal rate is like .1% and it was exponentially higher in 2020.

  21. So what election was this supposed to be for? And why are there still mail in ballots floating around out there? Whoops, I guess we’re talking about California here, aren’t we? Nice the deputy she talked to was so concerned. This has gotten way out of control and we need to shore up and secure our elections….ONE day to vote. Polls are open for 12 hours, so plenty of time. And if you can’t be there, then you file an application for an absentee ballot. That is the way it’s always been. Blaming this all on Covid has really gotten old. Stop trying to cheat the process!!

And your description of how an election should be held is exactly the way it has always been done — and I’ve been around a loooooong time — until this past election. And Covid is no excuse because there again, people were going wherever they wanted and needed to go albeit with masks, but they did!! Covid was old to me about the second month into it, with mr Falsey standing at that pulpit in the limelight he loved so much, looking down his nose at his minions as he always did, changing his mind about what he had said the day before!! Sorry — didn’t mean to get off on that tangent!! 😃
