Pelosi’s Jan. 6 panel abandons effort to obtain 14K pages of documents from Trump lawyer

The suspected fishing expedition by the “bipartisan” January 6 investigative committee will reportedly have to make do without about 14,000 pages of documents that it sought to access.

The House committee says it has decided against insisting on the release of the mostly emailed messages from legal scholar and former Chapman University professor John Eastman, who had reportedly provided advice to the Trump team about challenging the 2020 election results.

Eastman, who spoke at the January 6 “Stop the Steal” rally, has reportedly submitted thousands of pages of material to the committee.

The J6 committee apparently will only attempt to gain access to about 3,000 additional pages, consisting of 721 documents, according to a court filing.

A federal court will make the final call with regard to the latter.

“The House select panel’s legal team said in court filings that after receiving 15,616 pages of documents from Eastman and a consolidated log highlighting 20,110 pages identified as being covered by attorney-client privilege, the committee would be dropping their requests to have 13,929 pages of documents handed over,” The Hill explained.

Most of the emails in question are apparently from Eastman’s Chapman University account during a time frame from November 3, 2020, to January 20, 2021.  The House panel had subpoenaed the educational institution to obtain them, which Eastman had challenged.

“Mr. Eastman said in a court filing last week, that he decided to lift previous claims of privilege on the documents due in part to a March ruling in which a federal judge declared that Mr. Eastman likely illegally conspired with Mr. Trump to overturn the 2020 election…The committee has pegged Mr. Eastman, who lawmakers allege attempted to convince Vice President Mike Pence that he could block the election certification process on Jan. 6, 2021, as a key witness in its nearly year-long probe,” the Washington Times reported on Saturday.

In what is likely going to amount to a Trump-bashing show trial, with carefully curated witnesses, the committee plans to hold approximately eight public hearings in June in what common sense suggests is an attempt to help Democrats in the run-up to the November midterm elections rather than as a legitimate fact-finding exercise.

Despite what will be the best efforts of the corporate media, it remains to be seen if the general public will pay any attention to the insurrection infomercial, given the actual kitchen-table issues that America currently faces under the Biden administration

With anticipated hoopla from CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and other similar outlets, the Democrat-controlled “select” committee, which includes RINOs Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, also plans to release a conveniently timed report in the fall, with a narrative that is probably already written.

The committee already obtained about 100,000-plus documents and conducted nearly 100 interviews.

So far, the House committee has shown no inclination to probe, for example, why the House sergeant-at-arms, a Nancy Pelosi subordinate, allegedly denied the-then U.S. Capitol police chief’s repeated requests for National Guard backup when everyone knew a huge protest was coming.

  1. Maybe they are trying to will find out if Trump has a phony birth certificate.
I’ll bet they find out that Trump is a black Muslim.
I’m sure that Trump smokes cigarettes.

  2. Of course Pelosi’s Jan. 6 panel abandons effort to obtain 14K pages of documents from Trump lawyer, they figured out that the information contained in these documents wouldn’t advance their own narrative on what happened.
