University under fire for ‘White Student Accountability’ meeting

The University of South Carolina is the latest school to go full “woke,” this time hosting a “White Student Accountability Group” at its campus.

The conservative student organization Turning Point USA obtained an internal email that was sent to students at the South Carolina College of Social Work, inviting them to attend the “White Student Accountability Group” that was held on April 26.

An event description for the group outlined its purpose, which was to help participants understand their “responsibility to dismantle racism in our practice and everyday lives.”

“The purpose of engaging in this project,” the event description reads, “is three-fold: 1) To help social work students recognize both their contribution to and responsibility to dismantle racism in our practice and everyday lives, 2) To encourage students to use their voice, power, and privilege to enact change in their classrooms, community, and practice, 3) To support students in developing skills to host similar groups among peers or colleagues to expand the community dedicated to racial equity and justice.”

“It’s just very sad and disappointing that the university would organize an event that promotes legitimately racist ideas,” said Dylan Baldassarre, president of TPUSA’s student chapter at the University of South Carolina, in a statement. And Turning Point USA writer Stephen Davis had some choice words for the program in a TPUSA Instagram post.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the university told Fox News that the “White Student Accountability Group” was not officially sponsored in any way by the College of Social Work, and was purely a student project unaffiliated with the university.

“The Accountability Group was part of a student’s project,” the spokesperson said, “and was not part of an officially sponsored College of Social Work activity. The meeting was open to everyone and was strictly voluntarily.”

Official or otherwise, it remains a fact that several faculty members at the University of South Carolina have signed statements indicating their affiliation with Black Lives Matter. An “In Solidarity” statement, signed by twenty-three faculty members and posted to the university’s College of Education site, reads like typical “woke” boilerplate.

“We recognize that for far too long,” the statement reads, “schooling, as an institution, has promoted values that function as overt and covert forms of anti-Blackness, racism, antisemitism, paternalism, misogyny, and white supremacy. We assert our disgust with the historical murder of the Black community, and continued violence at the hands of police.”

“As part of our pledge of solidarity,” it continues, “we recognize white privilege and silence contributes to the horrific racial inequities and we commit to fostering growth of our critical consciousness so that we cease to be complicit in the persecution of the Black community.

“In our view, the indifference of color-blindness is ineffective in supporting anti-racism and ameliorating white supremacy. Education must stand as an institution of anti-racist action, grounded in the recognition that no one is free and equal until the violence and discrimination perpetrated on the Black community is dismantled. Leadership matters, and we seek to prepare leaders who are committed to anti-racist education, social justice, and action.”

And the University of South Caroline isn’t alone. Loyola University Maryland, for instance, as well as the University of North Texas, have also instituted “White Accountability Groups.”
