In what appears to be a very timely coincidence, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was questioned about employees being reimbursed for traveling to other states to get an abortion just hours before the draft opinion from the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade was leaked.

“One other issue. Amazon told its employees today that they would be providing a new workplace benefit to allow workers to travel to other states if they need to go for abortion procedures. I’m curious what the White House thinks of that, whether that’s something that is appropriate as there are more restrictions on abortion rights, and whether that’s something that unions should seek in collective bargaining negotiations?” Reuters White House correspondent Trevor Hunnicutt asked.

“Sure. Well, I don’t have any comment on a decision by a private sector company. We — you know our view on the archaic abortion laws that we’ve seen put into place across the country in some states, far too many states. I’m happy to check if there’s more we have to say on it,” Psaki responded deflecting her answer.

Hunnicutt’s question was in reference to Amazon announcing on Monday to employees that “it will pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses annually for non-life-threatening medical treatments including abortions.”

The abortion benefit is retroactive to Jan. 1 and is applicable if an operation is not available within 100 miles of an employee’s home and virtual care is not possible, according to Reuters. The benefit applies to US employees or covered dependents that are enrolled in Premera or Aetna health plans, whether they work in a corporate office or a warehouse.

The benefits and attendant reimbursements are not solely specific to abortion. Amazon is also covering other non-life-threatening treatments that include cardiology procedures, cellular gene therapies, and substance abuse disorder services. Amazon also offers up to $10,000 in annual travel reimbursements for life-threatening issues.

Amazon’s move follows in the steps of Citigroup Inc., Yelp Inc., Apple, Levi’s, and others responding to Republican-backed state laws curbing abortion access. The benefits are targeted at helping employees bypass them.

Following Citigroup making a similar benefit announcement earlier this year, dozens of GOP lawmakers roundly condemned the move, with some Congressional conservatives calling on the federal government to cancel government contracts with the New York-based bank. Amazon is likely to face a similarly harsh backlash not only in Congress but among Americans in general.

The announcement along with Psaki’s response came just hours before a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion surfaced that called for the overturning of the landmark abortion case Roe vs. Wade. That would effectively hand the power back to the states to determine the legality of abortion.

“Amazon has expanded the travel and lodging benefit to cover travel for a number of non-life-threatening conditions if a provider is not available within 100 miles of an employee’s home,” an Amazon spokesperson told the New York Post. “This is not specific to any one treatment or condition, and the list is much longer than [abortion and transgender care].”

  1. Child sacrifice is a religion to the left They have reverted back to pagan times when children were sacrificed to the gods.

  2. That companies proudly announce their complicity in murdering the most vulnerable as a “benefit” is demonstrative of how morally corrupt society has become. These folks are more animated by Elon Musk’s efforts to ensure free speech, which they abhor, than they are about preserving and protecting human life!

  3. It sounds like Pssaki doesn’t care about 62 million butchered babies that could not fight back. She is the biggest pile of cow flop inexistence!!

  4. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that since this is the first ever leak of an opinion we are gonna have to look at the most recent nominee
