‘This is the hill to die on’: DeSantis vows action against Biden’s ‘Ministry of Truth’ as Republican fury builds

During a Friday press conference, Governor Ron DeSantis vowed that Florida “will be fighting back” against the Biden administration’s newly-created “Disinformation Governance Board,” described by DeSantis’s office as an “unprecedented threat” to the Constitution.

“I actually thought this was just a belated April Fool’s joke, but they are actually going to create in the Department of Homeland Security a bureau of disinformation,” DeSantis said. “It’s basically a ‘Ministry of Truth,’ and what they want to do is, they want to be able to put out false narratives without people being able to speak out and fight back.”

“They want to be able to say things like, ‘Russia collusion’ and perpetuate hoaxes and then have people like us be silenced,” he continued. “They want to be able to advocate for COVID lockdowns. They want to be able to advocate for school closures — things that are not supported by the evidence, but then, when you speak out, they want to stifle dissent.”

“We reject this bureau in the state of Florida,” DeSantis stated to enthusiastic applause.

“Clearly, our entire principles that the country was founded on you cannot have a Ministry of Truth in this country,” DeSantis said. “So let’s get real here, let’s make sure that we’re doing things to benefit Floridians and Americans, but we’re not going to let Biden get away with this one.”

“We will be fighting back,” DeSantis stated.

DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw has also publicly pushed back against the board.

To Fox News Digital, Pushaw said that DeSantis’s office is closely monitoring the “unprecedented threat” posed by the board to determine how to “most effectively defend Floridians’ Constitutional rights.”

On Twitter, Pushaw took aim at the newly-appointed director of the Disinformation Governance Board, Nina Jankowicz — a woman Tucker Carlson called an “illiterate fascist.”

After sharing screenshots of past, disturbing tweets from Jankowicz, Pushaw stated, “The only thing that surprises me about this whole psyop is that they announced it publicly. Like… the Biden Administration seriously thought Americans would be super excited to finally get a Federal Ministry of Truth with a creepy theater kid in charge?”

Pushaw and DeSantis aren’t the only Florida politicians slamming the administration for the Orwellian board.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio said in a video statement, “If you don’t think these people aren’t coming after free speech or our freedom, you better believe it now.”

The outrage over the DHS board isn’t unique to Florida, though.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) tweeted Friday that President Biden needs to quickly scrap the idea of a disinformation board.

“The same party that spent years promoting the Russia collusion hoax, suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story, & equated parents to terrorists believes it has credibility to control your speech,” McCarthy said. “Biden must immediately abandon his plan to create an Orwellian Ministry of Truth.”

And Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) pointed out the suspicious timing of the board’s creation, just days after billionaire Elon Musk announced he was going to buy Twitter and restore it to the “free speech” platform it was meant to be.

“They didn’t need a ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ until @elonmusk threatened their control over the narrative,” Nehls tweeted.

Outspoken Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said opposing the “Ministry of Truth” is nothing less than “the hill to die on.”

“I don’t think people are fully understanding of the severity of what a Ministry of Truth organized by DHS truly means,” Boebert tweeted. “This is Stalin level. This is Mao level. This is the hill to die on.”

Elon Musk has been reacting to the news as well, calling it “messed up.”
