Tulsi Gabbard’s legal letter demands retractions and apologies from Romney and Olbermann

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, through her lawyer, has sent a cease-and-desist letter to treason-accuser Mitt Romney as a harbinger of possibly hauling him into court on a claim of defamation.

“If Mitt Romney had read the Constitution, he would know that treason, the crime that he is accusing me of, that is punishable by death,” Gabbard declared.

The controversy revolves around U.S. Sen. Romney’s March 2022 tweet accusing Gabbard, a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves, of putting forth “treasonous lies” essentially because she has not joined with the neolibs and neocons in advocating for a shooting war between the U.S. and Russia in Ukraine.

Gabbard is demanding that Romney, the Utah Republican who other critics separately have called a RINO, stop making false statements, retract any already made to avoid litigation, and apologize.

Failed ESPN and MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann (“a sad has-been who lives alone with his cats,” according to Fox News host Tucker Carlson) also received a similar letter.

In a colloquy with Tucker Carlson during his Fox News show on Wednesday evening that is embedded above, Gabbard, a Hawaii Democrat who ran for president in 2020 but has since emerged as a strong free speech advocate who regularly dissents from her party’s radical agenda, recalled she took the constitutional oath both as a soldier and as a federal lawmaker.

She mentioned that Romney took the same oath when he got to Washington.

“If Mitt Romney had read the Constitution, he would know that treason, the crime that he is accusing me of, that is punishable by death, is so serious that our founders deemed it to be the only crime worthy of being defined in our Constitution. And so the situation that we’re facing here is a very serious one, not because it’s about me, because it has a much bigger impact on our country,” Gabbard explained.

“When powerful and influential people basically threaten and intimidate people into silence as Mitt Romney, Keith Olbermann, and others are doing, they’re hoping to achieve that effect, that if anybody dares speak out against the government, that if anybody dares to criticize whatever the permanent Washington establishment’s narrative is, then you will be smeared as a traitor—as a treasonous traitor,” Gabbard — who backed Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential election cycle, continued.

“And frankly, also, if Mitt Romney seriously believes that I have committed treason, why hasn’t he brought any evidence or brought charges. He clearly doesn’t care that there are any consequences, or as I mentioned, he’s just trying to intimidate and bully me and others into silence,” she added.

In response to a follow-up question from Carlson, Gabbard asserted that none of her military colleagues, including those who might be deployed to the conflict in Eastern Europe, believe that raising questions about whether getting into a hot war with Russia is a good idea amounts to treason.

Carlson provocatively claimed that Romney “famously” dodged service in Vietnam and is “a coward.”

Gabbard further expressed hope that the lawyer’s letter will help Romney and Olbermann “recognize that — it’s giving them the opportunity to tell the American people, you know what, on second thought, we understand how serious this crime of treason is. We’ll apologize; and we’ll make sure that this doesn’t happen again, because if we love our country, we care about our democracy, we care about free speech, the last thing that anyone with a platform would want to do is to create a chilling effect where people are afraid to express their views, whether they are mainstream or not, whether they are in line with those in power in Washington or not.

“This is America, and we all need to stand up and protect this speech because today it’s me, tomorrow it could be you,” she concluded.  Parenthetically, previous attempts have already been made to silence Carlson.

The letter to Romney from Gabbard’s lawyer Harmeet Dhillon, a prominent GOP activist and First Amendment attorney, reads, in part:

While your tweet lacked any context, we surmise that your tweet was made in reference to a video Representative Gabbard published on Twitter that same day. In her video, Representative Gabbard called for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine so that any biological laboratories in Ukraine could be secured…Whether your tweet’s baseless accusations stemmed from Representative Gabbard’s March 13, 2022, video or have some other unknown genesis, they were malicious and could not be further from the truth. Representative Gabbard is loyal to the United States and its interests. Further, any suggestion that she supports Russia’s actions in Ukraine is unmoored from reality. Representative Gabbard has unequivocally condemned Vladimir Putin for this brutal attack on Ukraine…

Gabbard previously sued Hillary Clinton for reportedly describing her as a “Russian asset,” but wound up dropping the defamation case in which she sought $50 million in monetary damages.

Gabbard’s attorney at the time noted in the court filing to withdraw the lawsuit that his client’s case still had “legal merit” but that “righting the wrongs” would have to take a back seat to the current coronavirus pandemic and the goal of defeating President Trump in the November 2020 election. Gabbard endorsed Biden in that election.

  1. What ever miss Tulsi says and does now, she was backing “Barney”Sanders. That tells me all i need to know. 🤨

  2. Any Dim/Commie who thinks “…the goal of defeating President Trump in the November 2020 election.” And “endorsing Bide in that election” isn’t worth writing an article about. She’s on the same level with Rino Romney.

  3. LoL! Yet you clown Kool-Aid drinkers STILL think this grandstanding poser is worth listening to. Shame on Tucker.

  4. When she ran for the Democrat nomination to become President against Joe Biden and others I said at the time that she was the only Democrat that I would vote for. I still hold that position and Romney is one of a few Republicans that I will never vote for. Sue the pants off this fraud.

  5. If Romney believed his crap he would ask the Congress to work with Justice to file charges against Gabbard.

By not doing so he de facto is saying it’s not true and never was, which should leave him open to a defamation suit regardless of his standing as a senator.

  6. Mitt, the draft dodger has the audacity to call someone “treasonous?”

I hope that Lt. Colonel Gabbard sues him for A LOT. He’s been hiding behing his Mormonism for far too long.

    He’s an unflushable scumbag.

  7. So, upstanding Mormon… mittens..who actually belonged to the church of what’s happening now in the 1960s…had daddy romney get their church to let mittens go on a ministry to Paris for 2 1/2 years in 1966 so he wouldn’t be drafted during the vietnam war. So… some other young man from a big city or rural farm, who didn’t have the money or connections to get out of the war went in this draft dodging cowards place. And he calls Gabbard a traitor? Romney is a lowlife turd, and anyone who voted for him is as demented as the imbecile in occupying the presidency.

    1. Daddy Romney spent a lot of time and money fighting against Barry Goldwater’s presidential run.

  8. Sue these scum, tulsi. We are sick of Romney and all his failures. Romney could not make it in the real world.

  9. I am no fan of Tusli as she voted Present on Trump’s shit show impeachment. However she is worth a 1000 of the Mitt Romney’s and the other Democrats. She is no traitor. I certainly hope she fights the slanderous idiots tooth and nail if nor nothing other than an public apology.

  10. Romney’s only consistent accomplishment has been to utterly disappoint everyone who ever supported him. What a fraud.

    1. May Romney go the way of his rambler. Romney was too stoopid to realize he could have made it on Jeep alone.
