Former President Donald Trump’s unsuccessful bid to sue Omarosa Manigault Newman for writing a tell-all book about her time serving in the White House resulted in his campaign being forced to pay $1.3 million in her legal fees.
Newman was originally sued by the Trump campaign in 2018 for allegedly violating a nondisclosure agreement by publishing her book, titled “Unhinged.” The case’s arbitrator awarded the massive amount on Tuesday.
“Respondent was defending herself in a claim which was extensively litigated for more than three years, against an opponent who undoubtedly commanded far greater resources than did respondent,” claimed the arbitrator, according to The New York Times.
John Phillips, Newman’s lawyer, also responded to the ruling, saying that he believes it will send “a message that weaponized litigation will not be tolerated.”
Newman served as then-President Trump’s assistant as well as Office of Public Liaison director of communications but was fired in 2017 after she was reportedly caught abusing the car service for the White House. She went on to have a rather ugly, public battle of words and pen her “insider’s account of the Trump White House.”
Social media reaction to the ruling was mixed, though most people believe the victory to be only symbolic, and don’t think she’ll ever actually see the amount of money awarded:

Good luck collecting that.

Like he’s going to pay it.
It will cost her 20 million in legal fees and take 30 years for him to expire all his avenues of appeals for her to get paid. Then he’ll file for bankruptcy.— BostonGuy37 🇺🇸🇺🇦☘️🏒🥅🚨🥋 (@MattyTars76) April 21, 2022

This is just attorney’s fees, and I doubt they’ll ever collect.

They’ll do everything possible to drag it out for as long as possible. If I was her I wouldn’t count on that $$ anytime in the next decade or two.

Still. Can we talk about why she went there in the first place yet?

I hate that I’m alive at the same time as these people. I wish I didn’t know what an Omarosa is, but here we are.
