A Colorado Republican has filed a lawsuit after being forbidden from adding the popular phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” to his name on the ballot in the state’s upcoming GOP primary, contending that it is his nickname.

Dave Williams, a House candidate in the 5th Congressional District sued Democrat Secretary of State Jena Griswold who denied the request, saying that it is a slogan and not a nickname, a decision that he feels so strongly about that he’s willing to take it to court, claiming that there is no legal basis for the prohibition and citing a local school board candidate who was listed as Blake “No Mandates” Law on the ballot.

“While Colorado statute does permit the use of nicknames on the ballot, our office does not believe this is a good faith use of that statute and will cause confusion for voters,” the Secretary of State’s office said in a statement. “The Secretary of State’s Office looks forward to defending our practice of ensuring the ballot remains clear and accessible for all Colorado voters.”

“My ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ nickname represents who I am and what the voters can count on knowing me by,” Williams said in a text message, according to the Denver Post. “Jena Griswold is breaking state law, and being inconsistent with her past interpretation of it, because she wants to put her thumb on the scale against my candidacy, and it’s come time she learn she can’t push her radical agenda on the rest of us without a fight.”

Williams is seeking to capitalize on the popularity of the “Let’s Go Brandon” slogan that spread like wildfire after an NBC reporter thought that fans at an October 2021 NASCAR Xfinity event at Talladega Superspeedway who were chanting “F**k Joe Biden” during a post-race interview of winning driver Brandon Brown were really shouting their encouragement for Brown.

The chant, which not only summed up sentiment towards the deeply unpopular president and his far-left authoritarianism but also the complicity of the corrupt media that runs cover for him and the disastrous outcomes of his failed policies, soon began to ring out at concerts and college football stadiums while Biden’s defenders scrambled to suppress dissenters and clamp down on free speech to little avail.

Williams took to Twitter to rally his supporters and raise funds for the legal battle.

“We’re suing the corrupt Democrat Secretary of State @JenaGriswold. Like @JoeBiden, Griswold needs to learn she can’t push her radical agenda on us or violate the rule of law,” he wrote. “Help us stop her & get #LetsGoBrandon on the ballot!”

Williams also blasted the Democrat official in an interview with The Hill. “It represents a disgust out-of-control government,” he said, “it means we’re not going to take it anymore.”

The Colorado Springs Republican is seeking to unseat Rep. Doug Lamborn who is running for his ninth term, positioning himself as an alternative to business as usual in D.C.

“If you want to keep the establishment and the status quo, where nothing gets accomplished and our values are constantly undermined, then vote for the guy in the back right there,” said Williams, pointing over the crowd of cheering delegates toward Lamborn in the gymnasium at Falcon High School after his wife, Emily, and conservative commentator Michelle Malkin had nominated Williams,” according to Colorado Politics.

“But if you want a right-wing conservative, America-first, grassroots fighter with a spine who won’t back down from the corrupt politicians and the deep state, then vote for me,” Williams said.

  1. This is a silly gimmick that the MAGA movement does not need. Get a clue, buddy!

  2. Stick with it Williams! As a trade off, why don’t you make a peace offering…suggest you’d be fine if they wanted to add “K. Marx was my hero” behind their democrat candidates name.

  3. I would not even need to know his name if I seen the Let’s go Brandon. Which is probably why the Democrat wanted to have it removed LOL.
