Fox News host asks where DeSantis’ examples of CRT in math books are

Following a Friday press release from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) that the state had rejected 41 percent of submitted math textbooks over prohibited content, including CRT, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) touched on the announcement, but one Fox News host argued he hasn’t explained enough, stating, “they do need to come up with some examples on this.”

While appearing at the University of Florida Health Center in Jacksonville Monday to present an $80 million investment for the new Dr. Leon Haley Trauma Center, a level-1 facility, DeSantis gave a few brief remarks on the FLDOE announcement on how the focus would be on “educating our children, not indoctrinating them.”

Before sharing the clip, Fox News host Harris Faulkner said, “Florida Democrats are demanding to see examples of the CRT in these textbooks. DeSantis so far though has said he set up a review but otherwise, he is not budging.”

“You do have things like social and emotional learning and some of the other things that are more political in there. In our view on something like math, first it doesn’t meet the standards,” he explained referring to Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking standards, “but second, you know math is about getting the right answer and we want kids to learn to think so they get the right answer.”

The governor went on to add, “We’re going to continue to focus the education on the actual strong academic performance of the students. We don’t want things like math to have, you know, some of these other concepts introduced.”

Faulkner responded skeptically to the segment and said, “Not that it was anybody’s intention but they do need to come up with some examples on this. And I know the governor says they are reviewing it.”

She then turned to her guest, Seattle radio host Jason Rantz for his general explanation for how math and CRT have been tied together. Rantz explained, “They are basically saying folks who are – call themselves anti-racist activists – they claim white supremacy infects math because perfection, the concept of the characteristic of perfection is an example of white supremacy.”

“When you look at math, you have correct answers and incorrect answers. And so when you are being told that an answer might not be correct well that somehow in the twisted view of folks far to the left, they say that that is white supremacy,” he continued.

Rantz recalled a story he did about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that found “the idea of math being purely objective is unequivocally false.”

“And so this is what we’re seeing and it’s not just in Florida. It’s been happening here on the west coast, in particular Washington and Oregon for quite some time.”

Florida state Rep. Carlos Smith (D) took shots at DeSantis and his spokesperson Christina Pushaw for being, what he called, “a propaganda machine” that pointed to a Missouri homework assignment rather than anything from the 54 unapproved math books.

While others attempted to malign Pushaw for the example of content that is wholly unnecessary for math instruction, she presented an argument that is similar to one relating to the Parental Rights in Education law.

As many on the left threw tantrums about schools suddenly being restricted from teaching inappropriate content to grades K-3, it had been noted that, if the claims were that content wasn’t being taught, why would anyone object to it being banned unless you wanted it to be taught.

Similarly, Pushaw tweeted, “So instead of having a hissy fit because @GovRonDeSantis banned CRT math textbooks, ask yourself why CRT is being injected in math instruction to begin with? I promise you, in China kids aren’t learning about pimping in math class.”
