Fox News host asks where DeSantis’ examples of CRT in math books are

Following a Friday press release from the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) that the state had rejected 41 percent of submitted math textbooks over prohibited content, including CRT, Governor Ron DeSantis (R) touched on the announcement, but one Fox News host argued he hasn’t explained enough, stating, “they do need to come up with some examples on this.”

While appearing at the University of Florida Health Center in Jacksonville Monday to present an $80 million investment for the new Dr. Leon Haley Trauma Center, a level-1 facility, DeSantis gave a few brief remarks on the FLDOE announcement on how the focus would be on “educating our children, not indoctrinating them.”

Before sharing the clip, Fox News host Harris Faulkner said, “Florida Democrats are demanding to see examples of the CRT in these textbooks. DeSantis so far though has said he set up a review but otherwise, he is not budging.”

“You do have things like social and emotional learning and some of the other things that are more political in there. In our view on something like math, first it doesn’t meet the standards,” he explained referring to Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking standards, “but second, you know math is about getting the right answer and we want kids to learn to think so they get the right answer.”

The governor went on to add, “We’re going to continue to focus the education on the actual strong academic performance of the students. We don’t want things like math to have, you know, some of these other concepts introduced.”

Faulkner responded skeptically to the segment and said, “Not that it was anybody’s intention but they do need to come up with some examples on this. And I know the governor says they are reviewing it.”

She then turned to her guest, Seattle radio host Jason Rantz for his general explanation for how math and CRT have been tied together. Rantz explained, “They are basically saying folks who are – call themselves anti-racist activists – they claim white supremacy infects math because perfection, the concept of the characteristic of perfection is an example of white supremacy.”

“When you look at math, you have correct answers and incorrect answers. And so when you are being told that an answer might not be correct well that somehow in the twisted view of folks far to the left, they say that that is white supremacy,” he continued.

Rantz recalled a story he did about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that found “the idea of math being purely objective is unequivocally false.”

“And so this is what we’re seeing and it’s not just in Florida. It’s been happening here on the west coast, in particular Washington and Oregon for quite some time.”

Florida state Rep. Carlos Smith (D) took shots at DeSantis and his spokesperson Christina Pushaw for being, what he called, “a propaganda machine” that pointed to a Missouri homework assignment rather than anything from the 54 unapproved math books.

While others attempted to malign Pushaw for the example of content that is wholly unnecessary for math instruction, she presented an argument that is similar to one relating to the Parental Rights in Education law.

As many on the left threw tantrums about schools suddenly being restricted from teaching inappropriate content to grades K-3, it had been noted that, if the claims were that content wasn’t being taught, why would anyone object to it being banned unless you wanted it to be taught.

Similarly, Pushaw tweeted, “So instead of having a hissy fit because @GovRonDeSantis banned CRT math textbooks, ask yourself why CRT is being injected in math instruction to begin with? I promise you, in China kids aren’t learning about pimping in math class.”

  1. There are sites out there that showed examples of CRT in math books. It shouldn’t be hard for her to find.

  2. She needs to actually do some research, there are examples out there of mathematical story problems that will make your blood boil. Get off your backside and do some journalistic investigation Harris. One of the Fox News team that probably gets her orders straight from the libs at the top.

    1. Remember when George Soros name was mentioned on her show and she freaked out along with another host yet she donates Fox all morning. I can barely watch her and don’t trust any of her opinions.

  3. When math books cover more than just mathematics they are being used as vehicles of brainwashing by the wokes, lgbtq clowns and anyone else that wants to subvert thin country!!

  4. I’m with him on Parental rights. If he can’t point to something concrete regarding the math books, he is diminishing his argument .

    1. Someday I hope you drive across a bridge designed by someone who was taught math answers aren’t absolute and precise and correct answers are white supremacist and calling out wrong answers is racist. See ya down in the gully.

    2. Have you ever done any of your own research examples are out there don’t be ignorant.

  5. Well it’s the story problems that are loaded with sexualized verbiage and CRT that are intended to desensitize and normalize topics that we don’t want our children exposed to at such a young age and in some cases never.

    1. You are right. I have read some of them on other news outlets and they are disgusting and inappropriate.

  6. So under this new math, if I pay for something with a ten dollar bill and the cashier doesn’t give me change for a twenty, can I have a hissy fit?

  7. This site is so screwed up it is impossible to use. You can’t comment here without the whole site going insane. Why can’t you grow up Biz Pac and get rid of the crap, probably this shit comment system, and get it right for once?

  8. If you put 3 latino students, 4 black students, 2 Japanese students and 2 white students together, how many marginalized students are there? (multiple guess question)
    a) 0
    b) 4
    c) 7
    d) 9
    e) 11

    Nothing but math there, right?

    1. Right, what a joke. Stick to math that’s all I want my grandchildren to learn. Plenty of time for them to learn how messed up people are.

        1. There is an example in the article, but, since you learned to read in New Jersey from woke teachers. I’m not surprised you can’t figure it out.

  9. The Governor should have staff collect and prepare examples for the next interview. CRT is being insinuated into math textbooks by using what they call fuzzy math, where an answer doesn’t have to be exactly correct. This is not preparation for life, but great preparation for becoming entitled.

  10. News Flash, I live in the state of Florida and 5 years ago when I had a child in a public school here in Florida I can tell you that CRT was being implemented in the study of Language Arts as I just happen to read a paragraph in their text book while at a conference, when I asked it the student brought the books home I was told no because they don’t have enough books. I wrote the information down about the book and went to Books A Million only to find out that parents cannot order or buy the books used in public schools. I complained to the school and wrote a letter but nothing changed. For those parents who are interested in what they are teaching in these text books I suggest you get a copy as the education system does not want you to know what is being taught. As for math I can also tell you they are not learning basic math and this will become quite evident if and when you shop or go to a fast food restaurant. Hell, they can make change for a dollar.

BPR, please fix this new format so when people make a comment and type the letter f they don’t have Tommy’s Garage keep popping up. This is really annoying.

  11. I’m with him on the parental rights bill. He should be able to point to any number of
    examples

  12. The left’s desire to insert racism into math displays the depth of their dishonesty.

  13. I find Faulkner a good questioner & reporter, so I think in context, she was probably fine in asking. I’ve seen how this stuff has been integrated “subtelly” and it’s crazy! GO DeSAntis!!!

  14. It’s time for Faulkner to move on to CNN or MSNBC !! Maybe she can team up with Chris Wallace !!

  15. Let the Professors with their big salaries and even bigger bonuses pay for it. For the most part Abraham Lincoln was self taught by candle light. Need I say more except that he was home schooled?
