NYT journo appears completely duped by hilarious and satirical ‘This is MAGA airspace’ tweet

New York Times reporters are not renowned for having a robust sense of humor.

In fact, it seems they don’t have much of a sense of humor at all. Which is why it’s no surprise that one of them immediately contacted the author of an obviously, outrageously satirical tweet.

It all began as a response to the recent ruling by US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, who voided the CDC’s airline mask mandate on Monday.

Reveling in newfound freedom, some wit named Jared Rabel decided to celebrate the ruling with a humorous tweet.

It seemed pretty serious to begin with.

“I boarded a plane today with my son,” the tweet reads, “and mid flight, the pilot announces that the mask mandate is over.”

Then the satire kicks in: “Flight attendants pulled off their masks and sneezed directly into their hands while screaming ‘this is MAGA airspace.’ My son turned to me in tears. I don’t know what to do.”

By this time, it should be pretty clear to all that the author was pulling everyone’s leg.

But of course, Twitter being Twitter, some people took the tweet quite seriously.

But the most hilarious response came when Mr. Rabel allegedly received an unexpected text message from Victoria Kim, a journalist with the New York Times. Apparently, she took the tweet very seriously.

“Hi Jared,” she reportedly wrote, “I’m a New York Times journalist, I’d love to speak to you over the phone about what happened on your flight this evening. Can you please give me a call at [number redacted] or let me know how I can reach you? Hope this isn’t coming too late in your day. Thank you, look forward to hearing from you.”

It gets better—Rabel’s reply is priceless: “Hello Victoria, I would love to discuss the incident at your earliest convenience. I was pretty upset about the whole thing. Unfortunately it’s satire that only someone at the NYT would believe. In my time of contemplation, I was wondering how your team deals with the multitude of false stories that you peddle out daily to use as political propaganda and if you could give me advice on how to take my satire to the next level? Best wishes.”

Well played, Mr. Rabel—it’s not everyday that a satirical tweet hooks a bona fide New York Times hack. You’ve now entered the official roster of legendary Twitter trolls.

  1. The NYT always puts its foot in its mouth. Never fails! Then it takes an earthquake for them to admit they got it wrong. It’s hilarious to watch these fools.

  2. I am so sick of this covid aka great reset nonsense. But I undertake as a duty to inform people about facts about cheaply, effectively and qucikly curing this so called virus symptoms. Search for c19ivermectin on your search engine. On that website you will find as of right now there are 142 studies. 93 of them are peer reviewed about curing covid19 with ivermectin. These are undeniable evidences. You can get your ivermectin by visiting ivmcures.com

    1. My husband and I both use Ivcermectin as a preventative medicine. People all around us have had the China Virus but neither of us have had it. We just use the “horse wormer” which I buy at Murdoch’s for about $5.00 a tube. I put it on the bottom of my feet and my husband puts it on his aching muscles. It works as good as Bengay.

  3. When did reading polls and tweets become a replacement for journalism?

I know Juan Williams, once a good reporter, reverted to just reading polls as his reporting about 6 years ago and I’m seeing it daily and hourly now with others.

  4. The NYT reporters are always looking for dirt! They don’t have much in the way of brains, but they are definitely big on digging dirt! Other dirt diggers they remind me of: squirrels, gophers and skunks.
