A shocking new poll shows that a notable majority of Republicans are convinced that the Capitol riot of January 6th, 2021, was an act of “patriotism.”
The poll, conducted by The New Republic, shows the disconnect between Americans and the riot of that tragic day. While most Americans (66 percent of all polled) agreed that the attacks were a senseless assault on democracy in the name of overturning a national election and disrupting a constitutionally mandated Congressional meeting by force, a whopping 57 percent of Republicans felt the violent clash was a sort of patriotic duty, according to the poll.
The exact wording of the poll was as follows:
“Thinking about the people who forced their way into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, would you say that was more of an insurrection against the United States or more of an act of patriotism?”
As noted, a clear majority when disregarding party affiliation showed that most Americans looked upon the riot unfavorably, while only 34 percent thought there was something laudable about the violent day.
The differences among party lines were striking. For Democrats, there was a crushing majority, 88 percent, that felt the day was an insurrection, leaving only 12 percent that viewed the events as patriotic. Republicans inverted that, but were more divided – 43 percent, a sizable minority, felt it was an insurrection, breaking with the 57 percent majority that thought it was an “act of patriotism.”
Guy Molyneux, one of the pollsters from the Hart Research Associates, commented on the narrower split among Republicans:
“I don’t know whether we should take a lot of comfort in knowing there are still 43 percent of Republicans who think that was wrong, or despair that it’s only 43 percent.”
The poll comes as U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland faces pressure to speed up his investigation into the January 6th attack and widen the net in regards to former President Donald Trump himself and his closest associates.
Republican leadership has been dismissive of an investigation but it would seem a majority of Americans want to see some kind of action taken and justice done, especially for those who may have been instigators of the assault behind the scenes.
A Politico/Morning Consult poll that came out recently showed an overwhelming majority, 71 percent, of Americans believe that those who repeated Trump’s claims about the election are guilty of a “crime,” and showed similar clear majorities in favor of the Justice Department taking legal action to prosecute anyone involved.
The House Select Committee Investigating the January 6th Attack on the Capitol has been getting closer to recommending an indictment, and continues its interviews and subpoenas of key officials close to Trump during the riot itself and during the run-up to the event. As of writing, criminal charges have not been filed, but there is wide speculation that that may change in the coming months.

The truth is the two polls aren’t necessarily in conflict……most who entered were invited in by the police and did zero damage. Others broke in, did damage, and committed crimes.
The dividing problem is that Pelosi and her Dem committee will not acknowledge both.

If January 6, 2021, was truly an insurrection against the United States, than the Capitol Police should be prosecuted as Accessories since much of the video I saw showed the Capitol Police opening doors and showing the rioters around the building. Not a single member of congress, including AOC were ever in any kind of danger, since they were all at least two or three hundreds away in another building across the street from the Capitol Building. If the same force of insurrection was enacted against the British in 1776 and 1812 we woudl singing God Save the Queen instead of God Bless America.
IMO, these folks were SET UP, and it was done with the blessing of the democrat party. They were ushered into the building, seemed to be welcomed in, and IMO, the FBI were there to start the trouble, much like in the Whitmer kidnapping situation. It’s amazing that none of their names are on the list to be arrested. And ASHLI BABBITT’S murderer was given a MEDAL, instead of put on trial like he should have been, and I believe a high-up democrat official was and is protecting him. BTW, who is RAY EPPS!
I call BS on that poll. Republicans, at least ones with working brains think the January 6th protest was a small group of useful idiots. They were useful to trump who ginned them up and claimed them as proof that the country thought the election was stolen, and even more useful to the democrats who left the front door to the capital wide open in the hope that they could bait some morons into doing exactly what they did. I have not spoken to a single person who considers them Patriots. This website is a bogus propaganda vehicle for morons who think January 6th was anything but a sad day for the country.. IMO, this was a set-up and I believe it involved the FBI, preplanned and carried out, in conjuction with some House democrats, high-up ones, and some Capitol Police, which were under the supervision of a democrat, whom I think was in on the planning. My opinion, but I’d bet I’m not far off base. We have a lot of POLITICAL PRISONERS, thanks to the actions of the above mentioned, IMO. I think the so-called 1-6 committee is investigating the wrong people.
I see it as an example of mob mentality that got out of control, and that accomplished nothing positive. The dim wits who did it-destroyed everything Trump did, and labeled everyone who supported Trump as low class, trailer park idiots and traitors who were “attempting to destroy Democracy”. There was No upside to that stupid event-not for those arrested and imprisoned with no rights, or the country – it was a propaganda narrative or a “gift” given to the enemy-(Democrats)that Democrats can use against Republicans FOREVER. If it did anything, it was to hurt Conservatives and Republicans and empower Democrats even more than they were, and make independents and moderate Democrats even more Leary of voting for Republicans-;which we need in order to win a national election.

The real insurrection was the criminal take over of our government by the DNP (Democratic Nazi Party). What they did was a set up to lie again to the American people through their Lügenpresse. Their “operatives” were the ones that deliberately caused the January 6th fiasco and now they’re illegally incarcerating Americans in their gulags.
There were government representatives there, thats for sure, but they needed the useful idiots to follow them and they obliged.
