The suspect in Tuesday’s mass shooting incident inside a Brooklyn subway has been taken into custody after an intense manhunt and a huge tip to police that was provided by the alleged shooter himself who surprisingly revealed his location to law enforcement.
Frank James, a 62-year-old black man whose angry, racially charged social media rants surfaced after the incident, contributed greatly to his own arrest when he called in on a tip line while a frantic search was underway by local and federal authorities whose efforts had failed to yield fruit for nearly 30 hours until their big break.
“I think you’re looking for me,” the tipster said. “I’m seeing my picture all over the news, and I’ll be around this McDonald’s,” according to multiple media reports. When police arrived, James had already departed but thanks to a sharp-eyed 21-year-old security worker who spotted the suspect while repairing a surveillance camera in the vicinity, he was quickly arrested.
James was apprehended and marched off in handcuffs near First Avenue between Seventh and Eighth Street, not far from the fast food restaurant where he told police that he would be.

Zach Tahhan, the 21-year-old Syrian man who lives in New Jersey and is being hailed as a hero for his role in James’ apprehension said that he “started jumping up and down and screaming” after he recognized the suspect while fixing the camera outside the Sifee hardware and garden store, making a “huge commotion to try to grab people’s attention before chasing after the suspected shooter on foot,” according to the Daily Mail.
“He revealed the manager of the store Francisco Puebla sprinted towards a cop cruiser that had pulled up at a red light outside the shop,” the outlet reported, quoting the store owner as saying ‘I felt scared as he had a backpack. So it was really scary. We walked behind him and police grabbed him.’
Following the arrest, New York City Mayor Eric Adams who had tested positive for COVID tried to take credit during a remote video appearance despite the fact that, if it wasn’t for James’ tip and the alertness of Tahhan, there’s a good chance that the alleged shooter would still be at large.

“My fellow New Yorkers, we got him, we got him” said Adams, offering thanks to police, federal agents, and just about everybody but the suspect who provided the tip that got him off the streets.
Adams, who has done little to clamp down on crime in the Big Apple despite campaign promises added, “I said to New Yorkers, we are going to protect the people of this city and apprehend those who believe they can bring terror to everyday New Yorkers…”
Now that James is under wraps there are multiple lingering questions that need to be answered beyond his motive for shooting up the subway, one of them being why did it take so long to find and arrest him despite the clear potential that he could carry out more violence.
Additionally, there is the matter of his hateful and threatening social media videos and why they were allowed to stay up by YouTube despite their racist content, not to mention why the FBI had previously cleared him despite his disturbing rants.
There is also the matter of the “malfunction” of security cameras which were out at the scene of James’ terrorist act as well as why were the subway doors locked, impeding efforts for passengers to escape.
Then there is the matter of James himself and how did he end up in New York. All are questions that must be answered despite their potential embarrassment to city officials and law enforcement authorities.
