Chuck Todd suggests GOP ‘overreaches’ in protecting kids from critical sex theory, could be ‘punished’

In yet another instance of liberal projection, NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd implied that conservatives are overreaching when it comes to the “heating up” culture war especially as it relates to the woke indoctrination of young children in public schools.

In a further bit of irony, it was up to Never Trumper Carlos Curbelo, in the clip embedded above, to give Todd and the other out-of-touch panelists on the Sunday morning show a reality check.

Viewing the situation only through the lens of politics, Todd teed up the segment by lamenting that legislation such as the Parental Rights in Education bill signed by Ron DeSantis (as well as similar bills in other states) is merely a way for the Republican governor to enhance his resume for a 2024 presidential run.

Todd, who has previously fretted about the Democrats losing control of Congress this year, asked Curbelo, a two-term GOP Florida congressman who was defeated in 2018, whether the right was overreaching and thus could result in the GOP getting “punished” by voters for this misbehavior at the ballot box.

“One hallmark of the culture wars in this country is the party that overreaches is who gets punished. Are we at a tipping point here where the right’s overreaching?” he asked.

Curbelo appeared to disagree. “Right now, Republicans are winning the culture wars in this country. That’s just the way it is. You look at defund the police, you look at defund ICE. Now in Florida, you have this parental empowerment bill, the opponents call it the ‘don’t say gay’ bill,” he replied.

“Republicans have basically baited Democrats in Florida into taking the position that students in grades K-3, students who are learning to color and read and write, should be taught about sexuality, about gender identity. So I think Democrats have consistently been, at least perceived to be, on the wrong side of these issues, and Republicans are gonna keep going to the well every time, and for Ron DeSantis, if he runs in 24, he’s going to run on these issues,” Curbelo further explained.

Todd then jumped on the “baited” terminology and lamented, again with no self-awareness, that the Florida law, instead of trying to correct an issue created by the left-wing, virtue-signaling educational establishment, is “big government telling people what to do… this is government…saying they want to look in your — they want to know what your kid’s gender is…Get out of my kid’s bedroom.”

Panelist Anna Palmer of Punchbowl News attributed the Democrats’ inability to push back as a messaging problem in which they have been unable to come up with an “animating slogan.”

NBC News correspondent Josh Lederman admitted that Republicans are controlling the narrative, (even though the corporate media marches in lockstep with Democrats on virtually all issues.)

“If you were to ask the average parent of a first-grader, do you want your kid to be taught about sex in first grade? Most parents would probably say oooh, probably not,” he conceded. “But if f you asked, is it okay for your kid to be read a book about Peter the Penguin who has two Penguin dads, you’re not gonna have the same kind of response. But Democrats have sort of ceded the argument on this, on so many of these cultural issues.”

“And this is why Democrats are losing working-class voters, Latino voters, because they seem so disconnected,” Curbelo informed the panel, bring the discussion back to the real world. “A lot of the messaging comes from the progressive base of the Democratic Party, and that messaging does not connect with working-class voters, with Latino voters….”

In another paradox, Boston Globe writer Kimberly Atkins Stohr claimed that in general, Democrats “focus on the policy and the solutions,” while Republicans concentrate on politics and winning elections.

Todd wrapped up the conversation by insisting that the midterm elections constitute a rare scenario in which both cultural and economic issues are in play on Election Day.

Earlier in the discussion, Todd claimed, without evidence, that Sunshine State voters were about equally divided on the Parental Rights bill, but some data recently shared by an NBC colleague perhaps suggests otherwise.

As alluded to above, it is conceivable that projection by the left has reached unprecedented proportions when, e.g., Big Government and anti-free speech apologists bemoan attacks on ‘democracy,’ misinformers complain about misinformation/disinformation, and diversity advocates demand conformity.

  1. Hey Todd, in case you haven’t noticed ~ You, and your “Woke” Demo-Lib, Leftists are on notice! Your Lib insanity has poisoned us enough and we Conservatives and most rational Dems are tired of your BS. Since you embrace the “cancel culture” so much, consider yourselves canceled!

  2. Chuckie….do you even follow the events in the news that you purport to report on? I don’t know if your wishful thinking is another Chuckie wet dream or a grooming projection.

  3. Hey CHUCKIE, We parents had our children! They don’t belong to the government to indoctrinate!

  4. The left finally went so far to the left that there’s no where else to go! UNLESS they begin a nightly show where they sacriFice live babies! And DON’T think a few of them have not considered this – Hollywood is that sick!!

  5. It would be fine to read about Peter the penguin, but the left does not stop there. It goes way beyond that.

  6. In what world does any sane parent want anyone to discuss sexually related topics with their young child? That’s the parent’s job. They have the sole right to decide what is appropriate and when it is appropriate. There must be a wholesale purge of Democrats from Congress in 2022. They are the Party promoting this madness.

  7. No Chucky, you dubag, pedo’s are punished by voters, not those defending the rights of families to raise their children. Get ready for your dear pedo dem party of bottom feeders, to get shalacked in November.

  8. Since when does the government DECIDE what benefits children. NOT all children are under the care of the Child Protection Agency. UNTIL they are under the government it is the parents that sign waivers at hospitals and schools not the government. How can it be legal in our society when a police officer is not supposed to question a minor without consent??? and yet a school teacher is supposed to talk about genitalia and sexual desire with my minor children?

You can’t have it both ways wokesters. You are not responsible when my kids screw up I am because they are my children and my responsibility, NOT yours. The only thing that is supposed to be taught to my children at school without my consent is to teach my children basic education. Reading, grammar, math, science, history. Additional subjects of art, physical education, shop, home economics. ALL standard subjects. Who determined schools could teach subject of sexual identity without getting a WAIVER? Especially to very young children who probably expect the tooth fairy every few days as they are loosing their milk teeth. Cops can’t even talk to a minor about these topics without getting a waiver from their custodial parent or a judge. This is just an insane overreach by Educators across our country. Vote every Democrat out of office from dog catcher to US Senator. They are a corrupt Party.

  9. The older Chuck Todd gets the dumber he becomes. I hope his kid’s teachers are teaching them this crap. Maybe they’ll be smart enough to figure out it’s BS and their old man is full of it.

  10. The Bald Headed Bolshevik – Chuckie Todd, will try to find some ray of hope or rationalization for Democrats- no matter what. The king of denial of reality when it comes to all the failed policies of Democrats.
