With the flick of a pen, Kristi Noem signs EO that takes aim at CRT in schools

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is taking steps to prevent “divisive concepts” such as Critical Race Theory (CRT) from being taught in her state’s schools.

On Tuesday, she signed an executive order that is effectively a ban on CRT in K-12 schools, despite the fact that the term isn’t actually mentioned anywhere in the bill. In fact, it is directly aimed at the Department of Education, as the school districts are in charge of much of the curriculum.

“Political indoctrination has no place in our classrooms,” a statement from Noem reads. “Our children will not be taught that they are racists or that they are victims and they will not be compelled to feel responsible for the mistakes of their ancestors. We will guarantee that our students learn America’s true and honest history – that includes both our triumphs and our mistakes.”

The state’s Senate Education Committee, which is Republican-led, rejected a similar bill proposed by Noem in early March, but did pass a bill in regards to the university system. It seeks to ban training that creates “discomfort” on the basis of race.

The ACLU is not pleased with Noem’s use of executive orders to further her agenda, claiming that she is simply “skirting” the traditional legislative process.

Social media reaction was mixed, as the topic of CRT in education is highly debated on both sides of the political aisle:

  1. Here’s the problems with EOs….the next person to hold that office can just reverse them!

Any exec with intestinal fortitude would immediately follow up important EOs with a written request to their senators/house to write a bill making it permanent and forward it to them within 30 days. This would do two things:first, make it permanent, and second, get ALL elected officials on record concerning the issue.

    1. Look at how many of Obummer’s EOs got upheld by leftist courts when Pres. Trump tried to cancel them.

  2. Kids should be encouraged to feel confident in their own skin, no matter the color. Why should any school be teaching kids to be uncomfortable with themselves? Teaching kids that they are bad because of what their (or anyone’s) ancestors may have done is very wrong. It’s like keeping the Hatfields and McCoys from ever settling their differences. The country was well on its way to healing the racial differences, then identity politics was forced upon us with a renewed division. How anyone can be comfortable with keeping the divide alive and well is beyond my comprehension. So very sad that the Democratic Party wants to keep the country in an evil and violent division.

  3. Excellent token move to further the image she obviously intends to proport, however, why has she not “flicked her pen” to end the power usurping emergency order in her state?
Likewise, with DeSantis, as no governor has done so to date, not even the touted conservative heroes we all so admire.
There are so many very important questions that go unanswered, and unasked for that matter, it is long past time we start demanding answers from those who are meant to serve us, as we DO NOT serve them!

  4. If CRT isn’t being taught in our schools, then why is Attorney General ,Merrick Garland’s son in law making millions selling CRT textbooks to schools? He just lost his contract with Virginia schools when Youngkin became governor. FJB

  5. Thank you, Governor Noem. A courageous and intelligent decision. Too bad more governors don’t share your committment to the elimination of CRT and 1619 indoctrination.

  6. Kristi Noem is a typical conservative woman. Intelligent, well-spoken, patriotic and beautiful.

Lib women? Ignorant, inarticulate, uninformed, America-hating skanks.

  7. The proponents of racist curriculum claim that it is only teaching history. It is important to teach the full context. Slavery, jim crow, kkk, segregation, the murder of more colored babies than are alive today… are ALL products of DEMOCRATS.

  8. Hey tweaker Joe,🖕off, the independents actually keep everyone guessing assclown,,,,hey Greek might as well change your name to geek it works better for you,,,,remember scumRats you have to live with what you’ve done to the USA as well,,,,,FJB,,,,,

  9. I am a SD resident. Noem is generally doing OK with this culture-war stuff. What is really needed is a FL-style “don’t teach kids about sex” bill. I’m trying to pressure some in the Legislature to consider this. The SD legislature meets from Jan-March, so nothing will happen until 2023.

    1. Whatever works to get groomers and marxist barbarians out of the education system is okay.

Finally! Someone with the guts to say stop the political division in our schools. We have enough as it is. If people want to feel like they are racist or victims then so be it. However they should not be taught that in School. That is for parents to teach their children.

  11. Noem is 99%. The only boof was vetoing the sports gender bill. She thought the NCAA was all-powerful….but they are just inept tools of the left.
