Subscription newsletter platform Substack mocked triggered Twitter employees who quit in a righteous snit after Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk became the outlet’s largest stakeholder and joined the board of directors, telling them not to bother looking for work at the company.
Vice President of Communications Lulu Cheng Meservey announced on Tuesday that Substack is hiring. While doing so, she took a jab at Twitter employees telling them not to apply for a job at the company.
Substack is looking to hire a data analyst and several product managers and systems engineers, among other positions.
“If you’re a Twitter employee who’s considering resigning because you’re worried about Elon Musk pushing for less regulated speech… please do not come work here,” she tweeted in response to Musk, who is a free speech advocate, buying a multi-billion dollar stake in Twitter.
“But for everybody else, we really are hiring! Join a talented, determined, passionate, motley team of all backgrounds and beliefs. We debate respectfully, execute maniacally, and live to serve writers and podcasters. Long live independent publishing,” Meservey proclaimed.

Musk wondered aloud on Twitter last month if something should be done about censorship on the social media platform. He is a prolific Twitter user.
“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” he tweeted on March 26.

The Libertarian-leaning billionaire went on to purchase 9.2 percent of Twitter’s stock which was announced on Monday. It makes him the largest stakeholder on Twitter. Then he joined the board of directors and has already begun suggesting changes such as an “Edit” feature for posts.

A Bloomberg op-ed outrageously called the development, “bad news for free speech,” on Tuesday.
Leftists have decried Substack because it publishes opinions outside of mainstream media. Journalists such as Bari Weiss and Glenn Greenwald have moved to the platform where they feel they can speak freely without fear of censorship.
The company has recently been the focus of an attack by the left over publishing “anti-vaccine” authors’ newsletters.
Meservey told the Washington Examiner in an interview that her tweets were meant to be “a lighthearted poke at Twitter” and that Substack welcomes applicants from all backgrounds “because diversity is strength.”
“But working at Substack only makes sense if you support the ideas relating to our core mission, including that what you read matters, that writers do important work and deserve to be paid well for it, and that healthy discourse needs to allow for respectful disagreement,” she pointed out.
Free and fair debate is how we arrive at the best outcome in Democracies. Censoring people has been bad for society and democracy.
Nice to see this reiterated

Meservey added an invitation for those looking for work who share the company’s vision: “If that’s you please check out Substack.com/jobs!”
