‘Keep this low low key’: Emails show Ron Klain solicited money from Hunter Biden for VP residence

White House chief of staff Ron Klain reportedly solicited funds from Hunter Biden in 2012 as part of an effort to collect $20,000 for the Vice President’s Residence Foundation (VPRF) further demonstrating the questionable business arrangements surrounding President Joe Biden as new emails come to light telling the junior Biden, “keep this low low key.”

Klain had departed from his role as chief of staff to then-Vice President Biden the year prior and, in addition to his role as president of Case Holdings, the holding company for AOL co-founder Steve Case, he had been tasked to run the VPRF. The nonprofit entity exists to help maintain the residence of the vice president at the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Dated September 21, 2012, Klain’s email to Biden that was worried about “bad PR” so close to President Barack Obama’s reelection began with pleasantries before diving into the “unpleasant business,” according to Fox News Digital.

“Hey, I have to tackle a piece of unpleasant business,” Klain wrote. “The tax lawyers for the VP Residence Foundation have concluded that since the Cheney folks last raised money in 2007 and not 2008, we actually have to have some incoming funds before the end of this fiscal year (i.e., before 9/30/12 – next week) to remain eligible to be a ‘public charity.'”

Calling the sum of $20,000 “not much,” Klain went on to specify, “I’m hitting up a few very close friends on a very confidential basis to write checks of $2,000 each.”

“We need to keep this low low key,” he emphasized, “because raising money for the Residence now is bad PR – but it has to be done, so I’m trying to just collect the 10 checks of $2,000, get it done in a week, and then, we can do an event for the Residence Foundation after the election.

“Is this ok? Let me know,” Klain concluded before providing information on where the check could be sent.

Biden wasted no time in reaching out to his longtime business partner Eric Schwerin who was working on behalf of the investment firm started by the then-vice president’s son and former Secretary of State John Kerry’s stepson, Chris Heinz. As reported, Schwerin has reportedly continued to play a role in the questionable business practices Biden has participated in, up to and including profits from Chinese energy companies.

The email exchange continued with Schwerin looking into whether the VPRF “would take a corporate check from Owasco,” which Fox News Digital reported is likely a reference to Hunter Biden’s law firm, Owasco PC.

Whether or not Biden or his associates contributed to the VPRF remains undisclosed. However, tax records from fiscal year 2012 depict the successful allocation of funds before Klain’s stated deadline. On the 990 tax form, the foundation indicated the receipt of $20,500 in contributions for the year-end of Sept 30.

In addition to his work as chief of staff for President Biden throughout the years, Klain served in the same capacity for Attorney General Janet Reno and Vice President Al Gore. He has also served on the board of directors for the Center For American Progress Action Fund.

Recently, Klain disputed Hunter Biden’s involvement in any criminal activity and assured the public that “the president’s confident that his son didn’t break the law” and further added that there wasn’t anyone at the White House involved in alleged ethical or criminal violations.

“The president is confident that his family did the right thing But again, I want to just be really clear,” Klain stated. “These are actions by Hunter and [President Biden’s] brother. They’re private matters. They don’t involve the president. And they certainly are something that no one at the White House is involved in.”
