Homemaking legend Martha Stewart announced on Instagram Sunday that she is mourning the loss of her “defenseless” little kitty Princess Peony after her four dogs reportedly killed the cat by mistake thinking she was an intruder.
“Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony,” Stewart, 80, posted on Instagram Sunday. “The four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self.”
“I will miss her very badly. RIP beauty,” she emotionally wrote obviously grieving over the loss of her 12-year-old calico Persian.
She also shockingly and tastelessly posted a picture showing three men industriously digging her grave in the yard.

The lifestyle icon previously posted that her cats lived in fear of her dogs last August, according to Page Six. There is no word on what will happen to the dogs after they apparently acted like a pack and tore into the cat.
“My cats feel liberated because the four dogs are away on vacation. Leaving the cats alone in the house to roam, relax, recover !!!” she stated on social media with pictures of the cats including Princess Peony.
Princess Peony was born on May 11, 2009, with her twin sister Empress Tang, according to Stewart’s website. The cats were both moved to Stewart’s farm four months after they were born.
Condolences for Stewart’s loos rolled in from social media on Sunday as well as more than a little criticism for letting the dogs get to the cat and then showing its grave being dug.

Stewart is well-known for her love of animals. She was the hostess of the Puppy Bowl in February and frequently posts about her French bulldogs Creme Brulee and Bete Noire. She also has two Chow Chows named Emperor Han and Empress Qin. Stewart passionately loves horses and has a number of other cats on her farm.
“At least 20 cats, 25 dogs, 10 chinchillas, and scores of canaries and parakeets have lived happily in my homes,” she wrote in a 2020 article. “And two ponies, three donkeys, 10 horses, many sheep and goats, and hundreds of chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail, peacocks, and homing pigeons have populated my sheds, barns, and stables.”
She called her pets an “amazing group.” Stewart went on to write, “Raising animals is serious business, and I try very hard to be a good owner to each and every one. Some respond in friendly ways, some are more aloof, and others don’t make a show of knowing me at all. But I think they all understand that I care about their needs and recognize their problems.”
She added, “Each of my pets takes a great deal of attention, and some require more training than others. But the rewards far outweigh the effort.”
