Tucker not giving crying WaPo columnist a pass for claim of PTSD over online harassment karma

Warning: Adult Language

A Washington Post columnist with a history of badgering others online, including young teens, is now claiming to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after her own schadenfreude was turned against her.

Taylor Lorenz was appearing in a segment on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” where Morgan Radford was addressing a New York University study attempting to quantify harassment of women online. That study analyzed the language used against Lorenz after figures like journalist Glenn Greenwald and Fox News host Tucker Carlson had reported on her hypocrisy of demanding an end to the kind of harassment she perpetuates.

Because the segment called out Carlson by name for a piece he did last year where he described Lorenz as “at the very top of journalism’s repulsive little food chain,” he made certain to give viewers a chance to judge for themselves who was in the wrong.

“Taylor Lorenz has spent the last several years at the New York Times and now the Washington Post harassing people with the wrong political views online, including children,” Carlson explained. “So of course, passive aggression being the main mode that our ruling class operates in, she has decided she’s the victim and the people who complain about what she does to them are actually the perpetrators.”

“She just did an amazing interview on MSNBC that revealed so much. We’ll let you judge,” he said before airing the relevant portion of this segment.

“They’ll threaten children, they’ll threaten my parents. I’ve had to remove every single social tie. I have severe PTSD from this. I contemplated suicide. It got really bad. You feel like any little piece of information that gets out on you will be used by the worst people on the internet to destroy your life and it’s so isolating. It’s horrifying,” Lorenz said as she appeared to emotionally breakdown.

However, Carlson was not as sympathetic as Radford when he stated, “Go look up what she’s done to a whole bunch of different people, including really young people in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and ask yourself if it’s fair because she identifies as a woman for her to claim victim status. And the answer is no, it’s not fair. But it’s exactly what they always do.”

Radford’s reporting suggested that it was Greenwald and Carlson’s coverage of Lorenz’s online remarks and not the remarks themselves that increased her backlash. As Carlson suggested, look up for yourself some of her behavior. That’s what Greenwald did when he reported on her “whining that others weaponize her past against her.”

“Here she used benign tweets to destroy a 20-year-old YouTuber that he posted when he was 16!” Greenwald shared in part in June 2021.

Others were certain to jump on her new attempt at seeking pity after she has continually glorified her own cyberbullying and her overblown classification of her troubles as being relatable to the trauma experienced by veterans.

Grabien founder Tom Elliot tweeted, “Imagine coming back from Iraq after having seen your friends blown to pieces and then seeing this pretend journalist claiming to be suffering from trauma just as debilitating – because of ‘tweets.'”

What Radford most notably lacked from her own reporting on this matter was that neither Carlson nor Greenwald called for or endorsed the harassment that Lorenz experienced. In fact, many appeared in unison that it wasn’t appropriate to threaten anyone, no matter their positions.

After remarking that he takes “no joy in seeing someone cry,” Noam Blum pointed out the “dogpiling of Emma Camp” that Lorenz “gleefully” partook in.

“In all seriousness,” another Twitter user wrote, “NO ONE deserves to live in fear that the worst people on the internet will dig up and use any little bit of information they can find on you and use it to ruin your life.”
