Washington state just became the first in the nation to sign Green New Deal-influenced legislation into law that bans most new non-electric vehicles by 2030 thanks to Governor Jay Inslee (D-WA).

Inslee signed SB 5974 which sets a goal that “all publicly owned and privately owned passenger and light-duty vehicles of model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in Washington state be electric vehicles.”

An “interagency electric vehicle coordinating council” that was put in place by the new law is empowered to “complete a scoping plan for achieving the 2030 target.”

“Transportation is our state’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. There is no way to talk about climate change without talking about transportation,” Inslee said as he signed the bill, according to NBC News. “This package will move us away from the transportation system our grandparents imagined and towards the transportation system our grandchildren dream of.”

The bill is referred to as “Clean Cars 2030.” It was put into motion as part of a $17 billion climate agenda called “Move Ahead Washington.” It also contains $5.4 billion for “carbon reduction and multimodal expansion,” $2.4 billion for “fish passage barrier removals,” $836 million for “four new hybrid-electric ferries,” and $150 million for “ultra-high-speed rail.”

“We’re investing in projects from rural to urban areas across our state, letting kids ride free on our buses, ferries, and trains, and so much more — and all without punting the cost to working families,” State Sen. Marko Liias (D) disingenuously claimed. “I’m eager for residents across the state to have more efficient and safer commutes — no matter how they’re traveling.”

It is unclear how Inslee and Democrats expect most families to afford $50,000+ electric vehicles, especially with skyrocketing inflation and horrific prices at the gas pump. AAA is reporting that the national average price of regular gasoline is now $4.225 per gallon, while the price of diesel has hit $5.117.

A whole slew of Democratic governors are now pushing through new climate change legislation in response to higher gas prices, doubling down on pain at the pump. Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) plans to send $400 stimulus checks to California residents for each registered vehicle with a limit of two to ease the pain.

Just as President Joe Biden has done, Newsom is blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin and the invasion of Ukraine for rising energy costs, not the Democrats’ catastrophic economic policies. Gas prices started rising as soon as Biden took office.

“We’re taking immediate action to get money directly into the pockets of Californians who are facing higher gas prices as a direct result of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” Newsom proclaimed in a statement. “But this package is also focused on protecting people from volatile gas prices, and advancing clean transportation – providing three months of free public transportation, fast-tracking electric vehicle incentives and charging stations, and new funding for local biking and walking projects.”

Newsom also blocked an effort by Republicans to suspend California’s hefty gas tax because it would allegedly help “petro-dictators and oil companies.”

A letter from the conservative lawmakers noted according to Fox Business, “while market forces are responsible for today’s extreme prices, California’s high taxes represent an added burden, and working Californians simply cannot afford gas prices approaching $6 per gallon.”

  1. Please Clear The Room Of All Dogma And Sophism! Hey Washington! Better start building massive receiving warehouses on your border, dumbazzez! Battery operated vehicles DON’T WORK! The 2022 BMW I4 doesn’t go 300 miles without having to be recharged for 8.25hrs on a 220 V line! BMW XI can barely cover 300 miles before being recharged for 10.25 hrs on a 220 V line!
GREEN ENERGY IS A SCAM! TESLA IS A SCAM! BITCOIN IS A SCAM! Only hybrids work! Yes. Whether blue fuel/battery, diesel/battery, gasoline/battery. Battery operated vehicles need a built in capacitor to recharge while running. We are 30 years away from this technology.

  2. all so the “democrat party’s” main supporters, ie MONEY BACKERS who have lots invested in “green energy” bull sh** can get rich now rather than waiting until technology makes it affordable(like rockefeller did with standard oil). Note that rockefeller did not get government to outlaw horses to force people to buy vehicles using gasoline. He continually developed technology to refine gas cheaper and cheaper in order to make it AFFORDABLE! He made a fortune doing this and the government finally broke standard up. The marxist POS that are backing the democrat party today dont want to wait for technology to decrease the cost of “green Power” and they dont want THE PEOPLE to discover the lies behind the “green energy”. where does the power come from to recharge electric car batteries and what do you do with them when they are spent? these a**holes will be making tons of money of that too!!!! and it will cost the “average” person a lot more than conventional internal combusion vehicles and will amount to a REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH FROM THE POOR AND MIDDLE CLASS TO THE ALREADY RICH!!!!
Whatever happened to Obama’s question: HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?!!!!!

  3. glad I left washington state 10+ years ago. will absolutely not go back now.
note photo of insoles surrounded by “useful idiots” who havent got a clue what they are shilling for.

  4. This new 121 page legislation signed by Inslee is public posturing and horse $hit. It is a “goal” only and none will ever know what it says really because it is nothing but convoluted gobbledygook. How can those idiots get elected by sane people? Well, the answer to that question is obvious. The majority of Wash State Western residents are insane.

  5. Insane!! Washington State does not have the electric power infrastructure to charge all those vehicles.

  6. This has to be one of the dumbest laws the Governor and his ignorant Left Wing Liberal politicians have ever enacted. It will simply not be practical to only purchase new car electric vehicles after 2030 or any other year in the future. For now and many decades to come, perhaps forever, electric vehicles will only serve as a second car for commuter runs and other short distance travels.

If this bill doesn’t get overturned, drivers needing a more practical gasoline engined vehicle will simply purchase it out-of-state. Which will result in a substantial loss of tax revenue for Washington State.

At some point in time even Democrats will have to acknowledge that climate change is a natural phenomenon. It’s been constantly changing since the earth evolved, sometimes getting colder, sometimes warmer. It was only a few decades ago when the earth was experiencing substantial cooling. Gasoline engine exhaust has had literally no effect on the changes.

There are many issues involved with battery powered vehicles including the natural resources needed to produce them. Many of which are mostly found in foreign countries such as China. Further, if electric vehicles are purchased in large numbers, there is no way the power grid will be able to handle the load without massive infrastructure upgrades. And sources such as wind and solar will not be capable of meeting the demand. It will only be accomplished using (clean burning) fossil fuels. This whole subject is just one big political pipe dream.

  7. Be certain that I will not wait for 2030, beginning now I will never take my gas or diesel vehicles even through WA on vacation. Too many great red states to see!

  8. It’s a bitch when reality kicks you in the teeth. This hasn’t been thought through at all, and no one’s going to be happy shortly after it kicks in. BTW, how many people who don’t work for Microsoft or Boeing can afford one?

  9. google: Newsom’s Energy Regulations Have Oil Tankers Emitting More Than Twice What All of California’s Vehicle Fleet Do

  10. So is Washington state planning to buy cars for everyone after 2030? This law is insane and they will find in 8 yrs they are prepared to even support the electric grid. Car buying will be nuts in 2029 prior to this taking affect. And California is even worse they already have rolling blackouts, just wait. And last how are they fueling electricity…. Hmmm let’s guess fossil fuels. When Dems want to get rid of all fossil fuels and nuclear plants they have no idea that doing so will mean no electricity for anyone. They truly are the dumbest group ever, pandering to progressives with no plan for fuel sources.

  11. Get out of the car business. That’s the message that I got from this. It could be 2050 but most americans who buy cars buy Gas powered cars by a huge margin. Today, 96% of cars sold in USA are gas powered. If they think they can switch people’s wants in under 8 years, they are nuts.
Now saying that, If Electric cars get a range of 400 miles plus, can be fully recharged in 10 to 15 minutes and cost as much as a Honda Civic (around $25,000) then I could see this being a possibility.

  12. I’m not commenting on the foolishness’ of the law, but if you read it, it says any new vehicle “2030 model year or newer”. That new 2029 F100 will still be allowed, and the way they hold up, that will be a while… Just say’n

    1. If you bought that 2029 F100 (what is that? Did you mean F-150?) in another state and move to Washington state in 2030 or later, you can’t register your vehicle and thus can’t drive it. You don’t think that’s a problem?

  13. Wash.State deserves to walk. Let them rush someone to the emergency room on horse and buggy. Must be something in the water in the N.W. Maybe Mount Saint Helens polluted the air. Or maybe the people are just plain inbred stupid.

  14. They can pass whatever INSANE Bills they like but they’re not going to be around very long when elections take place, Washington State will return to some form of Sanity and the “bill” will be reversed !

  15. I am curious as to what will they ban next? About 17 years ago I did a speaking engagement at Washington State University in eastern Washington. We drove from the airport in Spokane through miles and miles of wheat fields. I wonder if the Washington state government will ban fossil fueled agricultural machines? If they do, is it possible to power a combine harvester with electricity? For those of you that don’t know (which obviously include most Democrats in Washington state), harvesting wheat must be done when the weather conditions are right and often very quickly if a storm is approaching. You can’t take time to recharge a battery once you start. But of course, Governor Inslee knows all of this…sure he does. ;-)

  16. Pretty damned dumb to pass something like this before the renewable energy method is perfected. As it stands now, electric cars are fine for a minority, but if everyone went to electric vehicles the country’s grid would crash. Looking at the amount of land it takes to produce solar and wind energy, it is going to take a lot more technology before green energy is practical. Look at how much land it takes to make enough solar energy to run an industry. I can’t imagine how much land it would take to put up solar to keep a large city energized. And, land with solar panels erected is useless for anything else. Wind energy would allow possible grazing land for cattle but is not practical for farming with large farm machinery. With a growing population, we do not have the kind of land necessary to produce nothing but energy. Renewable energy is in its infancy and has a lot of growing and technical tweaks to make it practical. To make laws to make something illegal before we KNOW we will be prepared to make that leap is highly impractical and ridiculous, to say the least.

    1. Too bad we cant harness gravity or even Lighting. But thats dreaming. Just like the dems. eww. Problem is we have to have something to depend on while their exploring other avenues. Everyone wants energy. Every one needs it. We cant just jump from one to the other. Exploration isnt a bad thing in this instance. But until they find a way to make it reliable , we need to continue on with what we have. What we need. Available power and energy.

  17. It`ll be interesting to see what happens in 2030 when all auto makers, and, most auto owners, along with Big Oil, just ignore this insane law. How will the state enforce it?

    1. Its their hail mary pipe dream. They think that they have attention and the power to push that dream. Its a now or never to them. Sad to say that their plans are flawed from the get go.

  18. What will the state do in the face of massive departures of its residents alongside a huge loss of vehicles and goods entering the state? Sounds bad for their economy.

  19. Inslee should be hung by his heels in the public square and beaten like a piñata !

  20. I can’t wait to sit back and watch Washington’s entire electric grid implode when this idiotic law goes into effect…
And, as usual, they’ll scream to the fed to bail their moronic butts out, at a cost to every taxpayer in the country…

  21. Just one little question for the dimwits,,,where is the electricity supposed to come from,,already we have blackouts because the grids are overwhelmed by a/cs,,,,,I know gather the illegals and put them on a spinning wheel to produce the electrics your going to need,,,scumRats are stupid,,,why not get the solution before you cause the problem,,,,,,,FJB,,,,,,
