Now that The New York Times and The Washington Post have belatedly confirmed that the Hunter Biden laptop is real, the corporate media appears to be trying to minimize the ramifications of the federal investigation into the president’s son that supposedly has intensified.
Big Tech and the corporate media originally censored or sought to discredit the story, a scoop by the New York Post, during the 2020 election cycle because they apparently perceived that it would harm candidate Joe Biden and Democrats generally.
Now that they have no alternative but to cover, to some degree, Hunter Biden’s alleged influence-peddling in Ukraine, China, and elsewhere, which was previously dismissed as Russian disinformation, media outlets are giving the scandal perhaps a predictable spin.
Whether the ongoing investigation by the Biden-controlled U.S. Department of Justice results in any criminal charges remains to be seen, although a grand jury has reportedly been impaneled.
In the clip embedded below, ABC News referred to the scandal as a probe into Hunter Biden’s “tax affairs.”
Joe Biden, a.k.a. the alleged “big guy,” a term that has trended on social media, has denied any impropriety by him or his son. Hunter has denied any ethical lapses in his business dealings.
In its reportage, NBC made the scandal all about Trump and a report from Senate Republicans rather than what was revealed by legacy media outlets.
In general, when a political scandal engulfs the GOP, the mainstream media reports it as news. When it involves Democrats, it’s presented as mere allegations from their political adversaries.
As a thought experiment, moreover, imagine the media reaction if a laptop with this kind of material had belonged to Donald Trump, Jr.

CNN White House correspondent John Harwood claimed this week that “It seems pretty clear that Hunter Biden was trading on his father’s name to make a lot of money…But so far, there is zero evidence that Vice President Biden, or President Biden, has done anything wrong in connection with what Hunter Biden has done.”

Former Fox News correspondent Catherine Herridge did a lot better for CBS News in these clips shared by the watchdog Media Research Center:
Here's the rest of the CBS report.

According to New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, the “Laptop from Hell,” author, “This was the deal for which Joe Biden was to get a 10% cut, as cited in an infamous 2017 email on the laptop. ’10 [percent] held by H [Hunter] for the big guy.'”
In a detailed article, Devine is also calling out the media for being late to the party and for also leaving out key facts in the reporting:
No doubt these august media organs that treated our story with sneering disregard for a year and a half have their reasons for jumping on board. For one thing, their original goal of removing President Donald Trump from office was achieved long ago, and Joe Biden is now so unpopular that his Praetorian Guard is melting away and reporting on his family is less hazardous to Beltway dinner party invitations.
For another thing, they can’t have their audiences blindsided when the US attorney in Delaware completes his investigation of Hunter. God forbid that their readers and viewers wake up to the fact they have been misled and kept in the dark by their media outlets of choice…
Devine also claimed that Democrats and some RINOs in the U.S. Senate allegedly prevented Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) from engaging in a full investigation of the Hunter Biden matter while the GOP still held the majority.
“It’s clear the corporate media was complicit in helping get Joe Biden elected by suppressing what they knew would be damaging stories,” Devine quoted Johnson as saying.

Back in October 2021, influential George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley suggested that it might be time for the appointment of a special counsel in the matter in addition to the federal investigation in standard DOJ channels.
“I do not see direct evidence of criminal conduct by President Biden even if he lied about his past knowledge of his son’s conduct. Indeed, influence peddling is not a per se crime even for Hunter. However, one value of a special counsel is the expectation of a report that can address whether the family engaged in influence peddling with foreign powers and whether foreign powers may have acquired compromising material from these laptop files,” he wrote.
Turley also noted that key Hunter Biden business associate Anthony Bobulinski confirmed that Joe Biden “was routinely called ‘the big guy’ in these discussions.”
Since the internet is forever, many have not forgotten how taxpayer-funded National Public Radio originally and arrogantly deemed the Post’s Hunter Biden exclusive as a waste of time and supposedly discredited by U.S intelligence.

Many high-profile observers of the political scene are weighing in on Twitter. Here is just a sample from “The Big Guy” trend:
Dear Mainstream Media, please ask this simple question:
What does “10% held by H for the big guy” mean?
Sincerely,
The American People— Tim Swain (@SwainForSenate) March 31, 2022
Now that the NYT and WP have belatedly reported that the emails on Hunter’s laptop are (and always have been) legitimate, when will we see stories about “10% to the Big Guy”? Will the press ask the WH if Joe Biden is the Big Guy. This story is not over. It’s just beginning.

The big guy is corrupt PS. The 10% was for one deal. @JoeBiden got a lot more for selling us out #BidenCrimeFamilly #TheBigGuy

And who’s The Big Guy getting 10%, Matt?! https://t.co/GcwfugLOww

House Dems are obsessing over their unconstitutional political witch hunt into @DanScavino who is an American patriot.
But they have ignored the numerous illegal business practices involving Hunter Biden and “the Big Guy.”
We need to investigate Joe Biden’s family corruption.

Does Joe’s $5.8 trillion “budget” include 10% for the Big Guy?

So after lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop for almost 2 years, will the New York Times and Washington Post finally ask Joe Biden what “10% held by H for the big guy” means? pic.twitter.com/LFMBcei5Dc

The reason the New York Times and the Washington Post finally are covering Hunter Biden’s laptop and admitting it is genuine it’s because they know he is going down big time, and so is the big guy. https://t.co/MidPPSuGJN
