Justin Murrell, 20, who went to prison for 14 months after stealing a car and then dragging and paralyzing NYPD Detective Dalsh Veve, was just nabbed after allegedly stealing yet another car while being out on bail for a separate car chase in New York City.
The crime happened in February when Murrell, a purported member of the G-Stone Crips, led officers from the Port Authority on a chase in a stolen car at John F. Kennedy Airport. He was not apprehended at the time. The car was found several days later and surveillance video linked Murrell to the crime. He was seen allegedly jacking cars at both LaGuardia and JFK airports.
The serial car thief was finally arrested on Monday while exiting a courthouse in Brooklyn, according to the Daily Mail. Following his arrest, Murrell was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and a number of other offenses. Outrageously, he was then released under New York’s lax bail reform laws.
This latest car chase and the one in May 2021 were reminiscent of the altercation that changed Veve’s life forever. He was dragged by the car that Murrell stole for two blocks at up to 60 mph and is very lucky to be alive.

The detective was responding to reports of gunshots in June 2017 when he stopped to question Murrell who was 15 at the time. As the officer was speaking to the alleged gangbanger, Murrel slammed on the gas pedal, dragging the officer with him down the street. Veve survived but was paralyzed in the incident and can no longer speak.
In 2017, as Justin Murrell fled in a stolen vehicle, he dragged Detective Dalsh Veve causing catastrophic, permanent injuries. On parole, today he threatened the safety of NYers again as he drove recklessly in yet another stolen vehicle. Fortunately, @NYPD75Pct cops arrested him. pic.twitter.com/Y7tOdOjJ52

Murrell was found guilty of assault but not attempted murder. He was sentenced to a maximum of four years at a juvenile detention center.
The repeat offender was released in March of 2019 and completed parole in June 2021.

Even before finishing his parole, Murrell was involved in a car crash in Brooklyn after police tried to stop him at a red light. He hit three parked cars in that incident.
Murrell was then the subject of a 33-count indictment. He pleaded guilty to felony assault but was again freed on bail. He will now be sentenced on May 27.
“This attempted cop-killer represents everything that is wrong with our justice system right now,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch declared in a statement on Tuesday. “‘We tried to warn the city what would happen when he was set free. Every moment he spends free is not only an insult to our hero brother and his family – it is a real danger for New Yorkers.”
“We had a judge and elected officials who thought he should be given yet another chance and put right back on the street. That extra chance could have gotten a police officer or innocent New Yorker killed.” NYPD Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo asserted, according to Meaww. “It is imperative for public safety that he faces serious consequences as it is quite clear he has no intentions of changing his criminal ways.”
On parole for catastrophically injuring Det. Dalsh Veve in 2017, Justin Murrell remains a threat to NYers as he was arrested again today for recklessly driving another stolen car. He must face serious punishment and be sent back to jail where he belongs.pic.twitter.com/tKW3LWu8kO
