The hit pieces targeting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis are coming fast and furious but his intrepid press secretary Christina Pushaw is more than up to the task of batting them down and calling out the purveyors of fake news.

In the latest failed attempt to tarnish the popular Republican who is cruising toward reelection this year and remains a formidable challenger to Joe Biden in 2024 if former President Trump declines to run, had barely lifted off of the launching pad before it was shot down in flames.

Pushaw reacted to the bogus report by reporter Mary Ellen Klas, the capital bureau chief for the Miami Herald and co-bureau chief of the Tampa Bay Times/Miami Herald Tallahassee Bureau whose sloppy attempt to stir up a fuss over a “canceled” speech by the governor at a conference of immigration attorneys and wealth management companies was derailed by one very important fact.

Klas wrote that the hosts of the event, which will take place in Miami next month, pulled the plug on DeSantis’ scheduled address as the keynote speaker after receiving complaints over his tough policies on illegal immigration.

According to the story which, in addition to the Miami Herald, was also published by the Tampa Bay Times: “I was seriously considering your kind invitation until I was informed that you have decided to ask Ron DeSantis to be the keynote speaker at the conference,’’ wrote Ira Kurzban, a prominent Miami immigration lawyer, in an email to the conference hosts, EB-5 Investors Magazine. Kurzban shared his email with the Miami Herald.”

“Mr. DeSantis, also known as a Mini-Me for his Trump-like tactics, has engaged in the most virulent anti-immigrant conduct we have ever seen by a public official in this state,’’ he wrote, according to Klas.

Klas included a response from senior editor and vice president of operations for EB-5 Investors Magazine, Marie Ekberg Padilla.

“As a bipartisan organization, the keynote was simply chosen as the highest figure in the state of our event, and we have historically had keynotes from both sides of the aisle,’’ she wrote in the email to Kurzban and others. “With that, a decision has been made to reconsider DeSantis. He will not be joining our event in Miami.”

Pushaw responded by tweeting out a smoking gun in the form of an email from Padilla stating that “The Governor was never confirmed to participate, nor was he uninvited. We made a staff error and are regretful. It’s unfortunate that our event was used by media for political gain,” and requesting that Klas “Issue a correction.”

She’s still waiting as Klas has yet to update her deceptive reporting which has already been picked up by other media outlets eager to promote a false narrative about DeSantis being booted from the speaking slot that the conference host is denying that he was ever confirmed for.

Twitter users weighed in on the whopper by Klas and Pushaw’s rebuttal.

The “fact checkers’ have conveniently decided to sit this one out.

  1. Klass is definitely Classless ~ As well as a liar. She falls far shorter than just being bad at her job, she deliberately uses her tainted soapbox to push falsified yet typicallly biased Dem. agendas.

  2. I personally would like to say Thank You again to Christina Pushaw for her proficiency as Governor DeSantis’s secretary and exposing the corrupt media for trying to feed the public with their false narrative. Keep up the good work.
