Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson defused a tense situation after a man who allegedly challenged him to a fight pulled a gun during a comedy show at a rooftop bar in Hollywood, calmly handling what could have become a violent incident.

The action went down on Tuesday as the former champ was chilling and taking in the show along with his group when a man approached and rudely interrupted the comedic routine, reportedly wanting to fight Tyson, whipping out his piece before “Iron Mike” de-escalated the ugly scene by giving the man a hug.

Video of the encounter was captured and posted by celebrity gossip website TMZ which described the craziness: “At first you see Mike seated calmly at his front row table taking in the show — but the whole thing was interrupted by a random guy who approached Mike and co. and attempted to chat him up, disrupting a comedian’s set and everyone’s good time.”

According to TMZ, “While you can’t hear exactly what was being said in the footage, eyewitnesses tell us the man was actually challenging Mike to a fight — suggesting he wanted to elevate his ‘status,'” while the ex-champ coolly remained seated, letting the dude run his smack while another man intervened ” and tells the dude to scram. We’re told this was actually the host/MC of the night.”

“That pissed off the guy challenging Mike … who threatened to shoot the host, and then pulled out a gun from his waistband and cocked it in front of everyone. Naturally, everyone gasped and started ducking under tables,” the outlet reported.

The man put away the weapon after flashing it and then “again approached Mike, and asked him not to call the cops. Once again, Mike just sat there in relative silence, heard the guy out and in the end, embraced him,” successfully de-escalating what could have been a mass shooting event.

It was a kinder, gentler version of Tyson, a man who during his career mauled his opponents including biting off a portion of Evander Holyfield‘s ear during a 1997 bout, and were he inclined to do so, could have likely pummeled the troublemaker to a bloody pulp, even at age 55.

“Mike actually hugged the man, at which point he finally left without further incident. We’re told people started to trickle out after that with some trepidation — not knowing if the dude was lurking somewhere down below in the streets. After a bit of time, Mike departed too,” TMZ reported.

The police did not receive a call to respond to the incident according to TMZ, “We checked with the authorities … LAPD says they were never called.”

Also known as “Kid Dynamite” and “The Baddest Man on the Planet” during his career, Tyson won his first 19 professional fights by knockout and was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world from 1987 to 1990 until he himself was knocked out by unheralded Buster Douglas in one of the greatest upsets in the history of the sport. He is widely regarded as the greatest boxer of all time.
