New York Governor Kathy Hochul has picked up right where her disgraced predecessor left off when it comes to popularity and hockey fans let her have it when she appeared at Tuesday’s New York Rangers home game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Hochul has not only continued the authoritarian policies of scandal-soaked Andrew Cuomo but in many ways has taken them to the next level and she was loudly booed by the crowd at Madison Square Garden where she was an honored guest for “Women’s Empowerment Night” where she participated in the ceremonial puck drop.

The MSG announcer greeted the Democrat strongwoman as she strode to center ice wearing a Rangers team jersey, “Tonight, we would like to salute Governor Kathy Hochul, the first female governor of New York state,” as boos erupted from the stands, “Governor Hochul began her career in public service in the greater Buffalo area, served in Congress and was twice-elected lieutenant governor.”

“Here to drop tonight’s ceremonial puck, a champion of women’s rights and leader of the great state of New York, please welcome governor Kathy Hochul,” the announcer said as Hochul strutted out on a red carpet to join Ducks alternate captain Adam Henrique and Rangers alternate captain Jacob Trouba while booing and catcalls rang out.

Hochul became the state’s first female governor last year when she replaced Cuomo whose media-created image as the shining example of strong leadership during the early stages of the COVID  pandemic evaporated after he was knocked off of this pedestal as a procession of women came forward with lurid allegations of inappropriate sexual overtures that he made toward them.

Once Cuomo had slinked out of Albany on his belly to avoid the indignity of being impeached, Hochul immediately showed New Yorkers that she could be even more of an authoritarian than her blustering predecessor, moving to extend mask mandates and accusing the vaccine-hesitant of “not listening to God,” prospective voters gave their new governor an earful at the Rangers game.

Twitter reacted to Hochul’s rude welcome by the Rangers faithful including Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York who jabbed his state’s leader, “NY Rangers fans are ready to FIRE Kathy Hochul and are ALL IN to Save Our State! Losing is not an option.”

The Rangers went on to defeat the Ducks 4-3 in overtime on a goal by defenseman Adam Fox who lit the lamp 55 seconds into the extra period and they are currently in a tie for second place in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
