Black Lives Matter co-founder and avowed Marxist Patrisse Cullors is begging supporters to call the jail housing disgraced actor Jussie Smollett, where he’s been in a psych ward “sleeping on a restraint bed,” and demand his release calling his circumstances “unacceptable.”

“I’m in Chicago and was able to see Jussie today, and he’s strong, but what’s happening inside is just — it’s just unacceptable,” Cullors claimed in a video. “Today is the first day that he’s going to be able to get an actual bed. He’s been sleeping on a restraint bed.”

“They’ve also filed for him to be released — filed to the Appellate court,” she asserted. “Hopefully we’ll learn by this week, no later than Wednesday, if he’ll get out. And, honestly, we just need folks to keep tagging ‘#FreeJussie,’ keep posting.”

“We need folks to call the jail and check up on him, but also say that you think he should be freed,” Cullors urged supporters. “And the last thing is, we need folks to challenge the misinformation and disinformation around this case. That’s so critical.”

“What happened to Jussie could happen to any of us, and it’s completely unacceptable,” the former ousted Black Lives Matter leader contended. Not everyone was on board with her sympathies for Smollett.

Smollett was found guilty following a highly publicized trial in connection to a January 2019 hoax which involved the actor concocting a fake hate crime involving a rope placed around his neck, dousing himself with bleach, and falsely claiming that racial and homophobic slurs were hurled at him by former President Donald Trump supporters.

He was sentenced to 150 days behind bars by Judge James Linn last week, along with 30 months of probation, restitution of $120,106, and a fine of $25,000. He will also now be labeled a convicted felon.

“There’s a side of you that has this arrogance and selfishness and narcissism that’s just disgraceful,” Linn told Smollett while announcing his sentence. “You’re not a victim of a racial hate crime, you’re not a victim of a homophobic hate crime. You’re just a charlatan pretending to be a victim of a hate crime, and that’s shameful.”

“Your Honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this and I am not suicidal. If anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that,” Smollett declared.

Displaying what some saw as a lack of mental stability, Smollett yelled, “I am not suicidal, and I am innocent,” while raising his fist as he was escorted out of court.

The actor wound up in the psych ward at the Cook County jail after undergoing a “medical, mental health, and security assessment” on Saturday, according to his brother Jocqui Smollett as reported by Jason Meisner at the Chicago Tribune.

On Friday, Smollett’s attorneys requested “protective custody” for the actor while in lockup. Before going to the psych ward, he was housed in an area surrounded by security cameras, and an officer with a body camera was stationed outside his cell.

“Other detainees will not be present with him in the common areas,” the Chicago Tribune noted. He will also have access to a TV and a telephone.

“These protocols are routinely used for individuals ordered into protective custody who may potentially be at risk of harm due to the nature of their charges, their profession, or their noteworthy status,” a statement from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office commented.
