In yet another curious development in the bizarre case of Jussie Smollett, the disgraced actor has been placed in the psychiatric ward after he was sent to jail, perhaps being spared from living amongst the general population.

Smollett received his sentence on Thursday along with a harsh tongue-lashing from Cook County Judge James Linn who ordered him to serve 150 days behind bars along with other penalties for his role in orchestrating a 2019 hate crime hoax with himself playing the victim.

When he left the courtroom, Smollett freaked out, shouting that “I am not suicidal” as he was led away to his temporary home, an outburst that made headlines and if he intended it to make people question his mental stability, it appears to have worked.

According to his brother Jocqui Smollett, the former “Empire” star has been placed into the psych ward. He delivered the news via Instagram but it has since been picked up and posted on other social media platforms.

“So Jussie is currently in the psych ward at the county jail,” he said. “What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today and put on the front of his jail cell saying that he’s at risk of self-harm.”

“I just want to make it clear to folks that he is in no way, shape or form at risk of self harm and he wants to let folks know that,” he said, “that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that ultimately has been put up against him.”

He added, “This is not right, this is completely lack of justice, it’s angering, it’s an outrage but he also knows what he needs to do so we want to make sure that folks understand that, you know whatever, whatever insight the county jail they may… what assumptions they may be making, I don’t even know why they even have him in a psych ward, we still have not gotten clear answers there…”

The 39-year-old hate hoaxer did insist that wasn’t going to kill himself at his sentencing hearing following the verbal beatdown by Judge Linn who called him a “disgrace,” accused him of being “profoundly arrogant and selfish and narcissistic” as well as lectured him that “You’re not the victim of a racist hate crime, you’re not the victim of a homophonic hate crime, you’re just a charlatan pretending to be the victim of a hate crime and that’s shameful especially,”

After he was dressed down by the judge, Smollett insisted that he wasn’t inclined to take his own life, repeatedly shouting “I am not suicidal! I am not suicidal!”

Twitter reacted to the latest twist in the Smollett saga but there was little sympathy.

His lawyer probably advised him to make that outburst to get him into the psych ward to keep him safe. That prevents him from going into general population & getting hurt.🤓Maybe it’s their strategy to keep him safe.

Perhaps the most provocative take on Smollett came from “Fearless” host Jason Whitlock who suggested that there could be only one reason why the actor may fear that he could end up like Jeffrey Epstein.

The openly gay Smollett’s ill-fated choice to perpetrate the attack on himself on a bitterly cold Chicago winter night and then trying to blame it on Trump supporters whom he claimed berated him with racial and homophobic slurs was a major lack of judgment and he is now paying the price.

In addition to the 150 days in jail, Smollett also received a $25,000 fine, 30 months of felony probation, and payment of $120,106 in restitution to the city of Chicago.
