Florida state Sen. Gary Farmer, a Democrat, has been on the forefront of the misinformation campaign to counter Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill passed this week by the state legislature — the bill bans classroom instruction on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” in kindergarten through third grade.
The LGBTQ community and their allies on the left pushed back by misrepresenting the measure as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — the word “gay” is not mentioned in the language.
Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw set the liberal world on fire when she suggested, on her own time, “If you’re against the Anti-Grooming Bill, you are probably a groomer or at least you don’t denounce the grooming of 4-8 year old children.” The left interpreted her remarks as calling the gay community pedophiles, calling for her to resign, but the incident has prompted a needed focus on what children are being exposed to in school.
Farmer took to Twitter to push a radical spin on the bill, under the guise of protecting children, of course.
“Florida’s #DontSayGay bill is a cruel attempt to erase LGBTQ+ children and families in our communities,” he tweeted. “I will not back down from fighting to protect children and families in our state from this unwarranted hate!”

Florida Democrats continue to falsely claim that the bill bans the word “gay,” and have taken to saying the word repeatedly as if it was some form of defiance.

While his base may be eager to accept Farmer’s distortion of the truth, the online reaction was probably not what he was expecting.
Perhaps, the most hilarious response came from Pushaw herself, who responded to a social media user to say: “He should keep that tape on.”
He should keep that tape on

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to Farmer’s propaganda from Twitter:
Hey look everybody, another virtue signalling asshole who apparently didn’t read the damn bill, or is a pathological liar… https://t.co/W8CAXrK7Ub

This guy really, really wants to talk to your kindergartener about men having sex with each other. https://t.co/JPCyv8lBkW

It’s really difficult to know what to make of a Democrat politician who tapes “GAY” over his mouth in protest of a bill that says that teachers shouldn’t discuss sex-stuff with kids until fourth grade… https://t.co/VlnddeMvBD

I cannot fathom how they think this is a winning strategy.
They end up looking like the very thing that children need protecting from. https://t.co/LA8r6rLHtp

Actually, for the past 20 years, all we’ve been saying is gay, and now every term in the alphabet soup as a side dish. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to give it a rest for a while. https://t.co/8gptflHCqO
