Republicans much more likely than Dems to fight, not flee, if faced with US invasion: poll

According to a recently-released Quinnipiac University Poll, a slim majority of Americans would opt to stay and fight for the country in the case of an invasion, though the number varies vastly among Democrats and Republicans.

“As the world witnesses what is happening to Ukraine, Americans were asked what they would do if they were in the same position as Ukrainians are now: stay and fight or leave the country?” the poll reads. The results say 55% of all respondents affirmed they would stay and fight, while 38% say they would attempt to leave the country.

Breaking it down by political party, 68% of Republicans would fight, while 25% admit they would leave. Among Independents, the number of fighters shrinks mildly, with 57% saying they are willing to fight, and 36% seeking refuge elsewhere. Democrat numbers are nearly even, with 52% saying they would stand, and 40% claiming they would leave.

“When confronted with a terrible hypothetical that would put them in the shoes of the Ukrainians, Americans say they would stand and fight rather than seek safety in another country,” summarized Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst.
