Triggered leftists took to Twitter to howl in fury after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dispensed with “COVID theater” when he reacted to several students who were wearing masks during a visit to one of the Sunshine State’s colleges.

During his Wednesday trip to Tampa where he appeared at the University Of South Florida, DeSantis was captured on video as he addressed the group of masked students for their “ridiculous” displaying of the cloth face coverings which they are not required to wear.

When he walked up, DeSantis chided the students, “You do not have to wear those masks,” referring to the masks that have been a political symbol for leftists. “I mean please take them off, honestly it’s not doing anything and we gotta stop with this COVID theater,” something which Democrats at the national level dispensed of during President Joe Biden’s SOTU speech to a maskless audience of lawmakers on Tuesday night.

“So if you want to wear it fine, but this is ridiculous,” the exasperated DeSantis added, sighing audibly as he prepared to speak to the crowd.

The video of the incident sent the two Democrats who hope to unseat him in this year’s gubernatorial election to Twitter, seeking to gin up a state of hysteria to benefit politically in a race that neither has much of a chance of winning.

Charlie Christ, the one-time Republican governor of the state who bolted for the Democrats during the Obama years, tweeted “Young people in our state deserve to be treated with respect, not dunked on by a heartless, egotistical Governor with a political agenda.”

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried accused DeSantis of bullying the students, an outright distortion of what really happened at USF.

The shameless former weed lobbyist who has likened DeSantis to maniacal Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler is also seeking to raise money off the video.

According to recent polling, neither Crist nor Fried appears to have a snowball’s chance in Miami of unseating the popular Republican so it is understandable for them to be throwing everything at the wall in the hope that something sticks.

Other leftists flooded Twitter with their own plaintive wails of faux outrage.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, who serves as the prissy warm-up act for conspiracy queen Rachel Maddow tried to play “gotcha” with DeSantis. “Incredible predictable how conservative ideology goes from ‘hey it should be my choice; dont tell me what to do!’ to ‘We are *abolutely* gonna tell you what to do once we have the power to do it.'”

Hayes’ MSNBC colleague Medhi Hasan, who has been a fierce advocate for masks and even more authoritarian COVID measures including a vaccine mandate for domestic air travel, raged about the “anti-scientific B.S.” and all but openly accused DeSantis of being a mass murderer.

Former congressman Joe Walsh tossed off a typically unhinged take, tweeting, “I don’t care where you stand on masks, what @RonDeSantisFL did today at that school was a completely a**hole thing to do. It was a sh*tty thing to do to the teachers & administrators, and it sent a terrible message to the kids. But red meat for my former base, the GOP base.”

The one-time Tea Party favorite turned Democrat suck-up added, “Know this: Republican base voters no longer want a democratically-elected President. They want a dictator. They want a dictator who is an asshole. They want a bully who is above the law. That’s why they love Trump & DeSantis.”

Other whining leftists spat in anger at DeSantis.

While the perpetually aggrieved leftists yowled like angry cats, others defended the governor’s mild rebuke of the youngsters.

Christina Pushaw who is the governor’s press secretary wrote on Twitter, “I mean, someone had to say it, after 2 years of propaganda that terrified and manipulated young people. Breathe free, feel safe and be happy.”

Pushaw, who has a wicked Twitter game also responded to Washington Post reporter Amy B Wang who is trying to get the parents of the students at USF to contribute to yet another one of her employer’s anti-Republican hit pieces.

For good measure, Pushaw included a picture of Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams flashing her famous gap-toothed smile while sitting Buddha-style and bare-faced among an entire classroom of forcibly masked young students at an Atlanta-area elementary school, a tone-deaf image that caused her to suffer great embarrassment.

“Long shot, but why doesn’t the Washington Post interview the parents of these students about how they feel regarding forced-masking children while politicians go mask-free?”

Try as they may, no matter how loudly Democrats and their media cohorts squeal over the USF video, they will continue to be frustrated over their inability to damage DeSantis who remains a serious White House candidate if former President Donald J. Trump doesn’t run again in 2024.
