A Florida mother is angry that Governor Ron DeSantis told students to take off their masks.
“I’m responsible for him, and I told him to wear that mask,” the woman told a WFLA reporter, turning to her son who appeared to be wearing a cloth mask.
For the record, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) acknowledged that cloth masks do not provide the same layer of protection as other types of masks, such as KN95 and N95 masks. In fact, CNN medical analyst Leana Wen claimed they are “little more than facial decoration” when it comes to mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
When the student himself was asked how he felt about DeSantis telling the students they can take off their masks, he referred to the moment as “controversial.” Because apparently, it’s only okay for adults and other “authority figures” to force young people to wear masks, but it’s completely unacceptable for them to tell young people to take them off.

“We were like ‘okay, this authority figure is asking me to do something that I know is probably going to end up being controversial,'” he said. However, that apprehension apparently wasn’t enough to prevent the student, whose mother stared at him the entire time he was giving his answer, from actually taking his mask off.
He was then asked whether he felt “pressured by the governor to do that,” to which the student replied “a little.”
“It was more of a pressure of an adult figure asking me to do something and it’s just like ‘alright.'” he continued, not recognizing the irony that he’s likely only wearing the mask because another adult figure in his life pressured him to do so.
“It’s just shocking,” his maskless mother said, going on to claim that her son taking off his cloth mask was putting them “at risk.”

Twitter was quick to jump on the interview:
Well the virus is never going away so what are we just gonna wear masks foreve? At some point you just have to say enough is enough and we’ve got a learn to live with this and not let it run our lives anymore!

My thoughts exactly, he literally wanted to say no you can tell, plus in the video he’s clearly smirking that he gets to take his mask off

What the mother failed to mention was that DeSantis offered them the option to keep the mask on if they wanted, but they didn’t have to. This is a generosity that has not been extended by those demanding people wear masks, but not giving them the option to not wear them if they’d like.
Who are the authority figures pressuring children to do what they don’t want to do, again?
“If hundreds of geriatric politicians can crowd indoors for Biden’s SOTU without masks, why should high school and college kids wear masks?” DeSantis’ press secretary, Christina Pushaw tweeted.
