First lady Jill Biden had a close family friend as a guest at the State of the Union address on Tuesday, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger, whose company is one of the largest tech manufacturers in the world with deep ties to communist China and was a proud sponsor of the Beijing Olympics.
Intel has previously cooperated with the Chinese Communist Party, deferring to its diktats rather than American principles. That did not stop President Joe Biden from introducing Gelsinger during his speech and proclaiming that Intel will build a monster manufacturing facility in Ohio that will ironically produce computer chips and other technology to counter China’s stranglehold on the market.
Intel will reportedly invest at least $20 billion in the venture and if Biden’s legislation goes its way, they’ll fork over $100 billion to produce chips that Americans desperately need.
A press release from the White House bragged that Gelsinger would be in attendance at the SOTU address: “Gelsinger serves as the CEO of Intel, where he spent the first 30 years of his career and served as Intel’s first Chief Technology Officer. He is a member of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee. On January 21, 2022, Gelsinger announced one of the largest investments in a semiconductor manufacturing facility in recent U.S. history.”
Although manufacturing technology at home is definitely a good thing, it should be noted that Intel derives approximately 26 percent of its revenue from China, according to Fox Business. If American companies do business in China, a member of the Chinese Communist Party is required to sit on the board of directors there. They also have a penchant for punishing companies who criticize or oppose the regime.

When America banned many Chinese imports due to the use of slave labor and other issues, Intel wrote a letter to its suppliers requesting that they source materials outside the Xinjiang region in China because of the ethnic cleansing of Uyghur Muslims. This reportedly infuriated Bejing and the Chinese population, the backlash eventually prompted Intel to grovel before the communists and apologize.
“We apologize for the trouble caused to our respected Chinese customers, partners, and the public,” a letter from Intel stated. “To clarify, the paragraph about Xinjiang in the letter is only for expressing the original intention of compliance and legality, not for its intention or position.”
Intel was also one of the biggest corporate sponsors of the Beijing Olympics, according to Fox Business. Visa and Coca-Cola also spent millions promoting the event and were excoriated for supporting a country that is currently in the throes of committing genocide against the Uyghurs.
Biden called for Congress to pass the $52 billion Bipartisan Innovation Act, more commonly known as the “Chips Act,” and send it to his desk so he can sign it. He claimed that it is critical for American manufacturing and the word is that Intel is heavily lobbying for its passage.

“If you travel 20 miles east of Columbus, Ohio, you’ll find 1,000 empty acres of land. It won’t look like much, but if you stop and look closely, you’ll see a ‘Field of dreams,’ the ground on which America’s future will be built. This is where Intel, the American company that helped build Silicon Valley, is going to build its $20 billion semiconductor ‘mega-site,’” Biden announced.
“Some of the most sophisticated manufacturing in the world to make computer chips the size of a fingertip that power the world and everyday lives” is in Ohio, Biden declared referencing Intel. He also said that Gelsinger told him “they are ready to increase their investment from $20 billion to $100 billion.”
“That would be the biggest investment in manufacturing in American history,” the president said shilling for his bill. “And all they’re waiting for is for you to pass this bill. So let’s not wait any longer. Send it to my desk. I’ll sign it. And we will really take off in a big way. And folks, Intel is not alone.”
While the new production facilities will lessen America’s dependence on China for chips and will create an estimated 7,000 construction jobs and another 3,000 jobs to run the facility according to Cleveland.com, it will also make heaps of money for Intel and cement their place as the world’s no. 1 manufacturer of computer chips.
