White House press secretary Jen Psaki called for furthering green energy initiatives in the face of foreign oil dependence that could see Americans burdened by $150/barrel prices.
In an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Psaki dismissed calls for President Biden to restart the Keystone XL oil pipeline and instead harkened back to the executive order that canceled the project which stated, the U.S. “must prioritize the development of a clean energy economy.”
“What this actually justifies in President Biden’s view is the fact that we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, on oil in general,” Psaki claimed, “and we need to look at other ways of having energy in our country and others.
“We’ve seen over the last week or so is that a number of European countries are recognizing they need to reduce their own reliance on Russian oil,” she added.

What Psaki left out of her assertion is that the recognition of the dependence on Russian oil stems from the lack of international leverage it provides those European countries, not from their concerns of moving toward greener energy production.
Maria Bartiromo referenced this growing stance Monday while appearing on “Fox & Friends First” where she stated that “Russia is becoming a pariah across the world.”

With energy prices up, Bartiromo suggested that if the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine continues, “there are expectations now we could see this continue and push oil up to $150/barrel in the coming months.”
Contrary to Psaki, Bartiromo pointed out, “The only move for the United States at this point to protect itself is to become energy independent again.”
Bartiromo further stated that Biden is partially responsible for the looming energy crisis as he canceled the Keystone XL pipeline and all drilling on federal land on his first day in office. Biden continued the assault on domestic energy production last week when the administration delayed decisions on permitting new oil and gas leases, Fox Business reported.
The delay is in direct response to an injunction that prevents these new leases from paying more than $50/ton on their carbon emissions that Biden also demanded on his first day in office. The judge’s temporary injunction allows the rate to remain at the $7/ton that President Trump had instituted following the initial $50+/ton under President Obama.
Biden had also proposed banning all crude oil exports from the United States in December, a consideration which was highly panned amidst an already suffering economy. Republican pushback against such devastating measures was led in part by Rep. August Pfluger (TX) who has once again stepped up to promote American energy security.

“The Permian Basin is the most prolific production area in the entire world,” Pfluger stated. “We must unleash and innovate to make sure the production continues to be strong, that we regain our dominance on the world stage in the oil and gas we supply, not only for our domestic needs but also our partners and allies so that they’re not dependent on maligned actors like Russia and China.”
“Biden’s refusal to unleash US oil & gas in favor of the climate religion cannot stand,” Pfluger added in his tweet.
In the upper chamber, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) plans to introduce legislation Monday to combat Biden’s failed initiatives and “disastrous capitulation to our enemies.”
“Tomorrow I will introduce legislation in the Senate to reopen American energy production full throttle and reverse Joe Biden’s disastrous capitulation to our enemies,” Hawley tweeted.
