‘I can’t figure it out’: Even Caitlyn Jenner perplexed by today’s ‘woke world’ of gender identity

Caitlyn Jenner lamented over the “woke world” created by a “fringe,” telling Fox News host Sean Hannity, “I can’t even figure it out.”

Jenner, an Olympic gold medalist and former California gubernatorial candidate, joined Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce on “Hannity” Tuesday to discuss recent controversies surrounding gender identity in the Golden State. Before introducing his guests, Hannity laid out two cases where adult biological males have been placed in situations that potentially threaten female minors.

One was a case where a 26-year-old biological male has been sentenced to two years in a girls’ juvenile detention facility because of the soft-on-crime policies of embattled Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón. The other involved a school-sponsored overnight science camp out of the Los Alamitos Unified School District where biological male counselors slept in the same rooms as fifth-grade girls without parental consent because they identified as “non-binary.”

“We are living in such a woke world right now,” Jenner said. “I can’t even figure it out. This is a terrible story. And Los Alamitos, their fifth-grade class, they went to this camp and when they came back, they were talking to their parents about gender, this and that.”

“It’s absolutely a mess out here in California,” Jenner went on after explaining the “good news” that parents had stood up to investigate the policies that may have put their daughters in harm’s way. While California law permits staff to be housed in the cabins of their “self-identity,” the camp is said to be disputing whether the counselors were ever in the girls’ rooms.

“It’s a shame,” Jenner continued, “because I know so many people in the LGBT community that are such wonderful human beings and just do it right. It’s a shame that this fringe is out there ruining it, honestly, for everybody.”

This is not the first time that Jenner has questioned rules or policies with regard to the transgender community. The former athlete has been a vocal opponent of biological males playing in female sports despite how they identify.

“This is a question of fairness,” Jenner said. “That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair, and we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.” Jenner further clarified that gender identity should not prohibit anyone from participating in sports. “I think everybody deserves an opportunity to play in sports, no matter who you are, or what your identity.”

Tammy Bruce agreed with Jenner and stated, “The fringe really right now are the people who are running California,” before suggesting the system had devolved from seeking background checks for adults working with children to taking them at their word about their identity.

Bruce emphasized that “this has nothing to do with sexual identity; nothing to do with even transsexualism…This has nothing to do with people wanting to live their lives authentically.”

“Honest people are not going to move their way into that environment,” she went on suggesting that in this particular instance there may have been some intent beyond “self-identification.” “That is not a normal dynamic. Not for anyone.”
