Liberal political commentator Van Jones announced his decision to be a “conscious co-parent” of his friend’s newborn and hopes others will consider a similar path.

Jones, a CNN host, released a statement Saturday explaining his desire to have another child and the choice to raise one with his friend, Noemi Zamacona, People reported.

“After the COVID lockdowns,” Jones explained it became clear, “I wanted another kid.”  He is already the father or two children with his ex-wife Jana Carter whom divorced him in 2018 after a 13-year marriage.

“I discovered that my friend Noemi also wanted a baby. So we decided to join forces,” Jones said, “and become conscious co-parents.”

“It’s a concept that I hope more people will explore and consider,” he added.

After announcing that Zamacona had given birth to a baby girl and expressing his joy, Jones petitioned the public for privacy, “As we create a safe and loving environment for this blessed young soul, I respectfully ask for privacy.”

This arrangement that Jones and Zamacona have agreed upon is not a new concept.  As the Guardian explains, “platonic co-parenting – the decision to have a child with someone you are not romantically involved with and, in most cases, choose not to live with,” stems primarily out of gay communities and has begun to grow in popularity in heterosexual pairings with a number of online services existing to facility it.

Coparents.co.uk for instance, reports that of it’s 120,000 worldwide members, two-thirds are straight.  At least 80 percent of the 30,000 members Modamily boasts are likewise.

Some feel the decision that Van Jones is making marks another step closer to the ultimate end of traditional family values.

Given the numerous studies that have documented the benefits of raising a child in a household with a mother and father, including academic, social, emotional, and cognitive, one may wonder about the outcome of Jones’ decision.

This wouldn’t be the first time that the former Green Job Czar in the Obama administration had done or said something that strayed from his progressive colleagues.

In 2018, Jones tweeted out his support of President Donald Trumps actions on Criminal Justice Reform.

The First Step Act made sure that they system was, “treating people differently for different crimes,” Trump said during the announcement.  “Some people got caught up in situations that were very bad,” he added and the act was enacted to reduce penalties for criminal offenses and alleviate the challenges former inmates found when looking for work.

However, Jones has shown support for the organization Black Lives Matter that previously called for the destruction of the nuclear family before having to remove that content from their site.
