Saber-rattling Pelosi declares on ABC’s ‘This Week’ an assault on Ukraine ‘is an assault on democracy’

Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat who runs the U.S. House of Representatives like a far-left, authoritarian enclave where Republicans in the minority are allowed minimal input, claims that “an assault on Ukraine is an assault on democracy.”

George Stephanopoulos, the former Bill Clinton operative who hosts ABC News’ “This Week,” teed it up for Pelosi on this morning’s broadcast by asking her “what should [Russian] President Putin know from you, the Speaker of the House, about the consequences of an invasion” of Ukraine.

Pelosi seemingly joined up with the saber-rattling neocons and neolibs in the political and corporate media establishment with her response warning of severe consequences, although she did include a plea for peace.

“The fact is that we think that an assault on Ukraine is an assault on democracy,” she said. “We understand the loss of life, the damage, the collateral damage to civilians, to military, and the rest are severe if he decides to invade. The mothers in Russia don’t like their children going into war.

“He’s had to experience that, forgive the expression, body bag from the moms, before. So he has to know that war is not an answer. There are very severe consequences to his aggression, and that we are united in using them,” she added.

Watch:

According to the White House, President Biden supposedly warned Putin on Saturday that the U.S. and its decisively responding allies would “impose swift and severe costs on Russia” in the event of an invasion. American and other officials in the West claim that what would not be a minor incursion could be imminent, despite Russia’s repeated denials.

That aside, it is hardly evident why a border conflict between Russia and Ukraine has any bearing on U.S. national security.

Moreover, Democrats from Biden and Pelosi on down seem unconcerned with the massive numbers of illegal immigrants pouring across the U.S. southern border — drug smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorists opportunistically trying to enter the country notwithstanding.

“Pelosi last week said Congress is ready to advance ‘forceful’ restrictions on Russia and President Vladimir Putin if Moscow invades Ukraine. On Sunday, the Speaker said if the U.S. were not threatening to impose sanctions on Russia ‘it would guarantee that Putin would invade,'” The Hill reported.

One Russian diplomat, however, offered a different view (which common sense suggests was coordinated with the Kremlin because Putin has ruled the country with an iron hand since 1999, including a time as prime minister).

“Excuse my language, but we don’t give a s–t about all their sanctions,” Victor Tatarintsev, Russia’s ambassador to Sweden, told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

‘We have already had so many sanctions, and in that sense, they’ve had a positive effect on our economy and agriculture. New sanctions are nothing positive but not as bad as the West makes it sound,” Tatarintsev also claimed. “The more the West pushes Russia, the stronger the Russian response will be.”
