Fox News host Martha MacCallum said on Wednesday’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that a recent theft of high-end steaks from boutique grocer Trader Joe’s in Manhattan is evidence of a society on the verge of collapse.

Bob McManus, writing for the New York Post, reported on the theft and the all-too-common practice of citizens and law enforcement turning a blind eye to low-level crime in New York and elsewhere across the nation.

He wrote,

Indeed, the fellow who boosted 10 steaks from Trader Joe’s in broad daylight Tuesday was stopped by a store employee on his way out — but only to be asked, politely if ludicrously, to leave the grocery basket behind.

Which he did, though it’s not clear why; nothing bad would have happened to him if he hadn’t.

And this is the point: Crime without consequences generates more crime; and, wow, does New York — and America — have crime!

Speaking with comedian Jimmy Failla, MacCallum jokingly wondered why she is paying for steaks when there appears to be no consequence to stealing them, referring to the brazen shoplifter as “The Hamburglar.”

“The reason that he is so casual that even if he gets caught… my guess is that nobody is looking for this guy,” MacCallum said, before she asked, “Are the police hunting all over Manhattan for The Hamburglar right now?”

Failla responded, “Because we have created a society that has more empathy for the criminal than the cop, which is why New York looks the way it does,” said Failla. “New York right now looks like Gotham City before Batman shows up, except Batman’s not coming ‘cause he’s not vaccinated.”

“I want to live in a world where criminals are nervous,” Failla added. “I’m more nervous than criminals now. That’s not how you’re supposed to do this.”

He also referenced New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s recent, grammatically awkward suggestion to New Yorkers that they eat “a more plant-based centered life.”

The arguably ill-advised placement of priorities comes as crime in the city is exploding.

“Our city is leading the way with the most comprehensive expansion of lifestyle medicine programming in the nation,” Adams said on Twitter.  “This is personal to me. A plant-based lifestyle helped save my life. I’m thrilled that New Yorkers in every zip code will have access to this critical programming.”

Failla joked, “I do think something that’s emboldened the meat thieves is Eric Adams saying he wants everybody on a plant-based diet. If you’re going to steal steaks, now is the time.”

MacCallum concluded, “We’re laughing, but we’re only laughing because we would be crying otherwise. I mean it’s unbelievable that we’re witnessing in this city and others, where this is normal.”

Things may have reached critical mass when even race-baiting and criminal-loving charlatan Al Sharpton is frustrated.

“You go into a local pharmacy, a Duane Reade, you got to get some help,” he complained. “They have the little button, and the guy comes over and unlocks your toothpaste. I mean we are talking about basic stuff here.”

Long gone are the days of NYC’s “broken window policing” emplaced by former Gov. Rudy Giuliani and maintained after by former Gov. Mike Bloomberg that saw drastic reductions in crime in the 1990s and into the early 2000s but was then demolished by recent and now former Mayor Bill de Blasio. The policy of zero-tolerance for petty crimes was simple: stop the small stuff and you prevent the big stuff.

Such is no longer the case, and law-abiding citizens are left to suffer the predations of the criminal element in America.

As for New York City, one Brooklyn cop told the Post, “No neighborhood is safe.”

“At this rate we will lose the city by St. Patrick’s Day,” he warned.
