Gowdy explains what’s really behind Biden’s vow to nominate a black female to the Supreme Court

With a history lesson for Democrats, Trey Gowdy ended his Fox News show with a monologue recommending that President Joe Biden put identity politics aside and select the most qualified person to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Otherwise, the president is sending the wrong message, the ex-politician insisted.

“Joe Biden has promised to make the next Supreme Court Justice a black female. Americans — including a majority of Democrats — believe Biden should consider all nominees. So why not look for the most qualified candidates, period, Mr. President. I am fully convinced some of the names on that list would be black women,” former Congressman Gowdy insisted on “Sunday Night in America.”

Gowdy also claimed that Biden’s goal of making the courts look more diverse rings hollow because during his long political career, “he opposed a black man, a black woman, an Hispanic man, and a mother, and all were qualified, and all would have made the court more diverse. But Biden said no.”

Gowdy went on to tout U.S. District Judge and fellow South Carolina resident Michelle Childs, a state judge (from “a state hardly known for quotas or affirmative action,”) before being unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate for her current position.

“The people who know her, and worked with her, and appeared before her are universal in their praise for her character, and her intelligence, and her work ethic, and demeanor…There’s a difference between picking someone who is supremely qualified and happens to black, and picking someone because she is black.”

Childs is also receiving the support of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and others on the GOP side. The judge appears at this time to be a moderate, however, and thus may not be acceptable for the Democrat’s progressive activist cohort.

As alluded to above, Gowdy called out Biden for hypocrisy for insisting that the nominee must be an African-American woman as a campaign pledge. While he was a senator, “If Biden had his way, the Supreme Court would have been all white, and that doesn’t look like America,” Gowdy said.

Gowdy recalled how Biden voted against Republican court nominees such as now-Justice Clarence Thomas, filibustered for about two years the nomination of Judge Janice Rogers Brown (a possible future Supreme Court nominee) to the D.C. Court of Appeals, and blocked highly-respected attorney Miguel Estrada from ever getting an up-or-down vote at all for the D.C. Circuit.

“President Biden may want the court to look like America, but Senator Biden most assuredly did not.”

Gowdy also noted that Biden opposed the nomination of Trump appointee Judge Amy Coney Barrett. “So what could possibly look more like America than putting a mother on the High Court, especially one rated well-qualified by the American Bar Association?…so why did every single Senate Democrat oppose putting what would have been the only mother on the Supreme Court?”

“Joe Biden now claims he wants a court that looks like America, despite the fact that he whiffed when he could have done that in the past. In the process, he has refused to do the one thing that looks the very most like America – pick the most qualified person. I have every confidence that would have been a black woman. I wish you did too, Mr. President,” Gowdy concluded.

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who is often accused of being a RINO, has urged Biden to pick a well-qualified African-American woman who can obtain bipartisan support rather than one from the far left. She added that she would be honored to support an exceptional candidate in this regard.

Pundits of all kinds seem to have an opinion, including controversial ones, about the SCOTUS vacancy.

“Biden chose Harris as his VP because of the color of her skin and sex—not qualification. She’s been a disaster. Now he promises to choose Supreme Court nominee on the same criteria. Identity politics is destroying our country,” Tulsi Gabbard, a former Bernie Sanders-supporting Democrat who represented a Hawaii district while in the U.S. House, and ran for president in 2020, wrote on Twitter.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton claimed on the same social media platform that “President Joe Biden is engaged in blatant race and sex discrimination in deciding his Supreme Court pick but the Left-media complex would rather talk about Joe Rogan.”

Liberals have been trying to convince Breyer, 83,  to retire for some time, and they may have increased the pressure in anticipation that Republicans could regain control of the U.S. Senate in this year’s elections.
