Whoopi suspension sets off reminder of how very differently ABC treated Roseanne Barr

ABC’s suspension of Whoopi Goldberg over remarks that trivialized the “Holocaust” is drawing harsh criticism from many who are appalled over the network’s double standard after it fired actress and comedian Roseanne Barr over a joke.

Barr, who was one of the first high profile victims of the “woke” left’s cancel culture, was jettisoned after ABC and parent company Disney reacted to a tweet joking that if the Muslim Brotherhood and movie “Planet of the Apes” had a baby, it would look like longtime Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, a message that she quickly deleted and apologized for, referring it as a “bad joke” – but that wasn’t enough for the network.

The 2018 revival of her popular sitcom “Roseanne” which was a ratings hit had just been renewed for another season when ABC dropped the hammer, canceling it in favor of the spinoff “The Connors” where the cast of the family remained only without its star whose character was written out due to her fictional death from an opioid overdose.

Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment and the first black head of a major television network issued a statement at the time that “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

But it seems the downplaying by Goldberg of the significance of the systematic roundup, internment and barbaric murder of six million Jews including children by the Nazi regime in one of the greatest mass atrocities in human history only merits a slap on the wrist. But such is the disparate treatment when it comes to the establishment protecting those who have viciously attacked former President Donald J. Trump and those who supported him, including Barr.

Goldberg was handled with kid gloves despite a firestorm of backlash from Jewish groups after the co-host of “The View” flippantly remarked that the Holocaust was “not about race,” an opinion that would have likely resulted in her immediate termination if she was a conservative.

Comedian Terrence K. Williams took to Twitter to tear into the network over its double standard. “Whoopi should be fired. She is suspended for two weeks?” Williams tweeted. “That sound like a Paid Vacation to me. Roseanne was fired for making a joke on Twitter but ABC said they don’t accept apologies. Whoopi downplayed the Holocaust and she gets a slap on the wrist. Double Standards Right ??”

Actor Daniel Bostic also reacted, “Roseanne Barr was declared a social reject, was fired from her TV show, branded a racist, and offered no time to “reflect”. There was no chance of redemption. She was taken out.”

He added, “Whoopi Goldberg gets a two week suspension and Hollywood pretends like they’re being fair. Joke.”

Actress Gina Carano and former star of “The Mandalorian,” who was also fired by Disney for a social media post, tweeted, “Two weeks to slow the double standards.”

Other Twitter users reacted to the blatant hypocrisy of ABC and Disney.

The difference in how Goldberg was treated compared to Barr is not only further evidence of a raging political bias against conservatives but also shows that if it wasn’t for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.
