House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave a chilling warning to American athletes on Thursday who are competing at the Beijing Olympics this year, telling them they are “there to compete” and to not risk angering the “ruthless” Chinese communist government by speaking out.

U.S. athletes reportedly risk being hacked and surveilled in every way possible while at the Games, with the potential to damage their reputations and credibility during competition and they may even face threats to their families, according to Pelosi.

“I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there,” Pelosi stated at a Congressional-Executive Commission on China hearing prior to the opening of the Olympic Games. “I respect that, but I also worry about what the Chinese government might do … to their reputations, to their families.”

Pelosi ostensibly slammed the Chinese government and the International Olympic Committee for choosing Beijing as the venue for the Games given the Chinese Communist Party’s horrific human rights record.

“So, again, participate, let us celebrate from abroad, and don’t risk thinking that there are any good intentions on the part of the People’s Republic of China’s government — because there are none,” she asserted.

“Over the next two weeks, it is our moral duty to shine a bright light on the many human rights violations being perpetrated by the host nation,” Pelosi said.

“Now the IOC, aided by corporate sponsors, once again turns a blind eye with the 2022 Winter Olympics, just to bolster their bottom line,” she added. “If we do not speak out against human rights violations in China because of commercial interest, we lose all moral authority to speak out against human rights violations anywhere.”

“We wish all of the athletes well. We wish them safety — and that safety includes: Don’t for one moment believe what the Chinese government might tell you about freedom of expression. You take a risk. Be safe,” Pelosi admonished.

There has been overwhelming criticism of the communist regime’s human rights abuses at home, especially concerning the Uyghurs and forced labor camps. China has also come under fire for its violations of international law and freedoms abroad.

The despotic ruler of China, Xi Jinping, has crushed anti-government protests in Hong Kong and Beijing has also passed a national security law aimed at stifling dissent. That has led to the arrest of many who stand against brutal oppressive communist rule.

Many are angered that US athletes are even at the Beijing games, to begin with. American diplomats were told not to attend the games after China was accused of committing genocide against the Uyghur people. China denies they are committing abuses and atrocities in the region. Instead, they use the leftist line of battling alleged “terrorism” to ensure that citizens are safe.

The Chinese are said to have imprisoned approximately 1 million people or more in reeducation camps in recent years according to researchers. The majority of them are Uyghurs. Reports of rape, torture, murder, enslavement, and other atrocities have leaked out of the country.

FBI Director Christopher Wray stated this week that the threat coming from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is “more brazen” and “more damaging than ever before.”

“There’s just no country that presents a broader threat to our ideas, innovation, and economic security than China,” he proclaimed on Monday, speaking from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. “The Chinese government steals staggering volumes of information and causes deep, job-destroying damage across a wide range of industries.”
