Is there something in the water at CNN?

In the latest of a series of scandals that have hit the ratings-challenged network, CNN president Jeff Zucker is stepping down immediately over a previously undisclosed personal relationship with a co-worker.

Zucker is apparently collateral damage from the Chris Cuomo debacle.

In a memo obtained by the New York Times, Zucker, who Tucker Carlson has nicknamed the “dwarf king,” reportedly told colleagues that he is abruptly headed for the exits after nine years at the helm.

As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years. I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today.

CNN parent Warner Media accepted the resignation, which supposedly has shocked CNN staffers.

According to CNN itself, Zucker’s paramour is allegedly executive VP and chief marketing officer Allison Gollust, and she isn’t quitting.

“Jeff and I have been close friends and professional partners for over 20 years,” Gollust explained in a statement. “Recently, our relationship changed during Covid. I regret that we didn’t disclose it at the right time.

Both Zucker, 56, and Gollust are divorced.

The job prospects for Zucker, who turned CNN into a dreary, 24/7 anti-Trump, anti-Fox News infomercial, were already questionable, given the pending acquisition by Discovery, Inc., and speculation that the network would return to actual news reporting rather than partisan, pro-Democrat commentary.

“Under Zucker, CNN has recently been plagued by scandals, embarrassing headlines and struggles to attract an audience, leading critics to wonder if he would be shown the door once a planned merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery is finalized later this year. However, the sudden resignation before the potential deal was finalized sent shock waves across the media industry,” Fox News observed.

Former President Donald Trump released a statement on the breaking story.

“Jeff Zucker, a world-class sleazebag who has headed ratings and real-news-challenged CNN for far too long, has been terminated for numerous reasons, but predominantly because CNN has lost its way with viewers and everybody else,” Trump said.
