Thanks to Joe Biden, I can’t get a good night’s sleep

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

A friend called to complain that he is depressed. “What are you depressed about,” I asked him. “Everything I see in the news,” he replied. “Me too,” I was obliged to agree. Knowing that we have Joe Biden occupying the White House is preventing me from getting a decent night’s rest. Watching what our government is doing has destroyed my confidence in America.

My lack of sleep can’t be attributed to any one news item, but rather to the avalanche of horrors that take place every single day. Let’s just begin with the abortion known as Biden’s border policy. Trump had the southern border shut tight, but that wasn’t good enough for Biden. Instead, our current president is allowing two million illegals a year to pour into the U.S. with no Covid testing, no screening for criminal records or terrorist affiliations, and minimal drug or human trafficking enforcement. Most of the migrants seem to be single men who are coming from China, Africa, and the Middle East—not just from Latin America. All of this is in violation of existing immigration law.

The Biden Administration is flying them—at taxpayer expense—to undisclosed parts of the country, where they are released with no means of identifying their whereabouts. The latest affront is that illegals can use their arrest warrants as proof of identity at U.S. airports. When they arrive at their destination, these people who have violated federal law receive instructions on how to milk our welfare system dry. They are given—at taxpayer expense— free healthcare and education, subsidized housing, driving licenses, and the right to vote in our elections.

All of it is kept secret by our government with the complicity of mainstream media. The amount of crime that is a byproduct of Biden’s immigration policy is magnified by the lawlessness that has been fostered by local Democratic Party politicians. Our cities have become unsafe as Democrat mayors, city councils, and “progressive” D.A.’s support defunding the police, ending bail, and sending convicted felons back out on the streets. The recent spate of cop shootings is proof that our justice system has broken down.

It is irresponsible and criminal when elected public officials encourage disrespect for the laws they are sworn to defend. This is part of the “new normal.” Citizens have no confidence in the legal system. Under the Biden administration, the situation is getting a lot worse. America is beginning to resemble a third-world country.

Next, we are experiencing a concerted assault on free speech, from which all our rights emanate. Free speech is regarded by the Left as an outdated concept. The cancer known as political correctness is a way of stifling free expression in favor of socially controlled thought. As liberals take over our colleges and universities, they are indoctrinating young people to believe that conservative ideas amount to hate speech and should be suppressed. Biden is taking it one step further by empowering the Deep State to crush his political opponents and by encouraging social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to censor conservative opinions.

Adding to my depression is the campaign maligning people like me. If you are a straight white male, you are automatically considered a racist, a bigot, and an enemy of the people. Imagine my shock when I discovered that my fellow Americans on the left want to paint me as an oppressor of human beings, a modern-day Simon Legree, simply by virtue of my skin color and sexual orientation.

Blaming white supremacy has become the new national sport. Thanks to the adoption of critical race theory in our schools, children are being brainwashed to believe that all blacks are oppressed and all whites are oppressors. For this reason, Democrats have justified open borders as a means of diminishing the percentage of the U.S. population that is white.

The latest affront to equal treatment under the law is Biden’s promise to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court. I have no objection to a black woman on the court but using skin color and gender as the main criteria for selection is racist, unconstitutional, and corrupt. More than 90% of the American public are being excluded from consideration solely because of their race and gender. This is not the country I want to live in.

After dealing with all of this during waking hours, my normal sleep pattern is being torn apart. The time when I felt safe and secure living in the U.S. is gone. The Biden administration is not serving American citizens. We are engaged in a war between the individual and a presidency that has become unresponsive to the will of the people.

How will I ever get a good night’s sleep? How will the widow of slain New York City Police Officer Jason Rivera ever get a good night’s sleep? “The system continues to fail us,” she said in her eulogy. “We are not safe anymore.”
