Actor Sean Penn spoke on masculinity during a recent interview with the UK’s i News that included his daughter, Dylan Penn, blaming “cowardly genes” for the “wild” feminization of American men who ditch their jeans to put on a skirt.

“I am in the club that believes that men in American culture have become wildly feminized,” Penn, 61, candidly remarked earlier this month. “I don’t think that being a brute or having insensitivity or disrespect for women is anything to do with masculinity, or ever did. But I don’t think that [in order] to be fair to women, we should become them.”

“I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized,” he commented in a second interview with the UK Independent, doubling down on his premise. “I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”

He also contended that men in the U.S. find it either fashionable or empowering to adopt feminine traits.

The interviewer suggested that Penn’s daughter did not seem wholly approving of her dad’s statements concerning American men and their masculinity, noting she remained “quiet” during his response and “stared into space,” according to the outlet.

During that same sit-down, Penn also commented on anti-vaxxers.

“Sometimes people take their privilege and freedom as a right to be anti-citizen, to be failed citizens,” he claimed. “Those who will search out the kind of bogus science that would give them legitimacy [when it comes to] not being vaccinated.”

Penn has not been shy about expressing his opinions on American culture. In July, he called cancel culture “ludicrous” on an episode of the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend.”

Madonna’s ex referred to Alexi McCammond, the 27-year-old reporter who was booted as editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue in March over tweets she posted as a teenager. The tweets were deemed offensive to Asian Americans and dubbed racist.

“When we’re destroying careers like that, what are we really achieving? Or you look at politicians, I give a big nod to anyone that’s willing to enter the public arena who is doing so because they give a damn,” Penn remarked.

Penn stars in his latest movie “Flag Day” with his daughter Dylan. He plays a conman and bank robber in the film.

The movie is an adaptation of Jennifer Vogel’s 2004 memoir which allegedly expounds on “white American male entitlement.” Penn said it’s something he’s witnessed in many around him.

“Or rather, I should say, [in the] belief that this American Dream that was promised [to] them entitles them to it. And that is a very hard wiring to correct,” he posited.

Penn hit a chord with a lot of people on his masculinity comments:
